Yeah, I pretty stupidly watched TV the afternoon after my surgery. Maybe that had something to do with how badly the next couple of days were for me? IDK, all I know is your PKR eye is NOT going to be able to tolerate light for a few days if you react anything like me.

No idea how long it would take for the Lasik eye. Get an eye patch?

i'm not really having any light problems at all, my doctor said i could go back to computer/tv etc whenever i wanted to.

my only problem is my PRK eye (right) is totally blurry still, lasik eye (left) is pretty much perfect as far as i can tell. so i've been holding an envelope over my PRK eye otherwise nothing is in focus.

no dryness issues yet either (too soon?). had the halo effects like crazy on my way home from the surgery (which kinda terrified me tbh)

I'm definitely going to get this soon.

Any new advances lately? I'm going to go to one of the top docs in Chicago so they would probably have any new equipment or procedures. I had a pretty bad cut in my left eye when I was young and had to get stitches, and also have very dry eyes, so I'm thinking Lasik won't be an option for me

The great thing about General Tsao is that he can give good first hand experience of the differences between PRK and Lasik.

Get some rest and make sure to report back!

had PRK done 5 days ago. found the surgery vvv uncomfortable. thankfully its only 3 minutes or so an eye.
was extremely light sensitive until last night. played 9 hours of poker today on last day of having temp contacts in.
wear the dark sunglasses they give you in the beginning as much as possible, and sleep a lot.

my vision is slightly better then pre surgery now. cant wait for it to get better.

left eye (lasik) still awesome, pain free as far as i can tell and great vision.

right eye (prk) wowww - hurts like hell whenever i blink, to the point where i'm wondering if something is wrong. eye is incredibly teary. feels like maybe the contact lens got messed up while i slept? i guess i'll find out during post op follow up today.

Am coming up on 9 years since I had it done when I paid ~2K for two eyes; I work on computer 10+ hr/day and my eyes just as sharp today as it was after the 2 day recovery. Absolutely the best best best thing ever, has had dramatic impact on quality of life. If you've had coke bottles since early in life, that first day you wake up and look across the room at a clock and can read it clearly, it's like some unbelievable magic trick and you need a good month to stop reaching for glasses, or to just stop staring at things 30 feet away in amazement at their clarity. If you're thinking about it. DO IT.

IMO they are undercharging for this by an unbelievable amount compared to other relatively cosmetic surgeries.

There's nothing wrong. It's a hot, itchy sort of pain in the PKR eye, correct? Completely normal (unfortunately). Give it about four days.

I mean, I've already said what happened to me the day after my PRK in both eyes. Pretty much blind. Had to pry my eyes open to see the sign in sheet at the doctor's, and even then only held it open long enough to see where a line was and put the pen there, then I closed it again and just scribbled my name blind. Every time I pried my eyes open, hot tears would just pour down my face.

The scrubbed the cells off the front of your eye for the PRK. Those cells regrowing, along with the temporary lack of natural protection, is pretty uncomfortable.

ya, it's a little better now than it was when i first woke up when i made that post.

but wow, lasik, if you can do it, do ****ing lasik. my left eye is like i never even had the surgery on it, but the vision is great.

Yea but with LASIK you can't poke your eye since the flap will come out

i have completely lost track of how much pain medication i've taken today.

i'm taking the max dosage of advil, max of tylenol, plus tylenol with codeine, and IDK how much of each I've had....but I'm going to pop another codeine now because **** it I need to sleep amirite.

Damn you in that much pain? Did you take a lot of mess when you had your wisdom tooth pulled out or when you had your teeth deep cleaned?

no i didn't. and i've lived with sciatica for 10 years and it doesn't really compare to the pain i've had with the PRK eye.

so, the contact lens bandage thing came off last night while i was sleeping - talk about pain...had to go in today, best feeling ever was when they put the numbing drops in my eye, why can't i just have a bottle of that ****?

they replaced contact lens, said all looks normal, but now its going to take longer to heal :/

I did get a bottle of that ****. Glorious. :P

Sorry to hear your bandage lens came off. I know what you're going through, except I had the PKR in both eyes. I will start to feel significantly better by the weekend, IMO. Hang in there.

I had Percoset rather than Tylenol with codeine. for either, tho.

omg. srsly why do i not have a bottle of that? do i need to cave someone's ****ing head in

I got a bottle of antibiotic drops, a bottle of steroid drops, and a bottle of numbing drops.

I was told to use the antibiotics for a month +, the steroids only for the first week, and the numbing drops as rarely as I could as they would slow down healing. I think.

That's funny, I was told to use the numbing drops "as needed" for the 24 hours after I got them. Maybe they were a different numbing solution? I don't remember which other drops or how often, but I remember those numbing drops.

"As needed" was pretty much every time they wore off. Oh, such hot, itchy, burning eyes.

srsly, FU guys.

Though actually, had I been using the numbing drops, I would never have noticed that the bandage lens came off, so I guess that's good.

After the major trauma in the morning (srsly the most painful thing I've ever felt) yesterday, I was pretty much totally pain free, and today as well. Some very minor stinging.

Vision is still perfect in my left eye (lasik), PRK eye vision still worse than pre-surgery by a long shot. Surgery was on the 17th, so this is day 3 I guess. I'm really hoping PRK eye gets better in time for my return to work/normalcy on Monday.

Have a follow up tomorrow morning, hoping for good news regarding the PRK eye.

I think it took my PKR eye about a week to get to 20/50, which, while not perfect, is definitely doable. It would be weird to have one eye at 20/20 and the other eye off by that much, though, I would imagine.

Glad to hear you're feeling better.

update from checkup today: left eye at 20/15

right eye still turrible turrible turrible. just a little stinging now, and they said its because there's a tiny patch which hasn't healed yet, but I'm going in again tomorrow and they're expecting to take off the contact lens bandage and then the vision improvement will start.

still said everything looks normal and they're expecting all to go well.

i bought some lubricating drops - the sterile, one time use ones...****ing expensive, everything is expensive :/

does anyone know anything about writing off all these expenses for tax purposes?

the lubricating drops are great. my doc also gave me two boxes of those i think. I think they try to scare you a little and say you cant use any thing w/ preservatives for like 2 months but thats overkill.
