don't even start this up again. It was a huge thread, and nobody was able to change anybody's mind about anything.

But seriously, the bat wins.
what he said

There's no way to change anyones mind except to get a friend, one with a fake knife and one with a fake bat. Fight until someone gets a blow in that would injure the other enough that they're going to lose.

if the competition is losing at life, then yes, it's a tie.

Knife if the guys knows what he's doing. A Bat is useless at close range.
Saying a bat is useless at close range is really dumb. It's not as useful as a situation where you have some space to swing, but I'd rather have a bat at close range than bare hands or, frankly, a lot of weapons.

5 feet -- Bat high value; knife no value
4 feet -- Bat high value; knife little/no value (depending on reach)
3 feet -- bat mid value; knife little/mid value
2 feet and closer -- bat mid value; knife potentially high value (though, it depends a lot on the wielder)

The biggest mistake people seem to be making is to assume that if you take the bat you automatically turn slow, clumsy, and stupid and if you take the knife you are suddenly lightening fast and a brilliant fight strategist.

as is a knife at long range?
A baseball bat requires keeping your opponent at arms length, if the person with the Knife can close the gap he's the stone cold nuts.
"if my intramural basketball team had michael jordan we would be the stone cold nuts"

lol

it's not a fight on points or who really hurts the other guy's face, its a fight TO THE DEATH.

IMO bat dude would be mortally wounded in at most 30 seconds if they're in a cage the size of a boxing ring

What I'm thinking obviously of a Bowie knife ala Croc Dundee:

Yeah, try closing that gap without getting a broken arm or cracked skull.

ha ha, fool! don't realize this is a fight to the death?? all you've been doing is hitting me in the face with your baseball bat! don't you realize your rounded bat cannot penetrate my skin and wound my internal organs, which is the only way to kill me?! have at thee!

You don't need to be a good strategist with a knife. Blood loss. You also don't need to fudge around too much with exact distances. A knife is high value at any range it can cut.

I'm no fight expert, but couldn't the guy with the knife just charge the bat guy, block the bat with his arm, then stab the bat guy in the guts a few times? Even if your forearm gets broken, the other guy will have a knife in his stomach, and you should win.

You have to be a bumbling idiot to take a bat to the skull.

Knife guy charges while protecting his head from the bat, gets inside, slashes around a little bit, game over.

Knife in a bloodbath

The only way to wield the bat is using it to jab the knife wielder's head or throat or even break his knife hand. After you connect and injure the knife weilder, you can then go for the barrel of the bat to the side of the head swing. The knife wielder does not stand a chance.

The main disadvantage of a bat is that without force behind the swing the bat becomes near useless at the range it's supposed to excel at (semi-long range).

At close range, the bat can be rendered useless by just holding it or somehow stopping the other person from using it against you.

A knife on the other hand is much harder to deflect successfully when one or both of your hands is wrapped around a bat.

I'd choose the knife.

I'm not saying I'll get away without a bunch of m'fing bruises, but me with a bat has no chance vs me with a knife

I love how everyone seems to think the vast majority of people wouldn't be reduced to a cowering, whimpering mess after taking a bat to the forearm or ribcage.

oh damn. i didn't realize the guy with a knife was allowed to protect his head!!! damn, that's like the only vulnerable part of a human.

yah, after this bit of enlightening, there's no way you should take a bat, i mean, after reading all these excellent arguments for knife, i had no idea they were allowed to protect themselves. and from the way they make it sound, apparently you're only allowed to swing the bat once.

Don't forget as soon as you touch a knife you are instantly given the agility and speed to dodge a bat, but not vice versa.

Ugh. I was sort of excited because I thought you meant a bat, as in a flying bat, and that would have at least been the least bit interesting.
This is what I thought too, and I was really excited to click on this thread. Pity.
