I would say the strength of the combatants relative to the bat is very important. If the bat is too big to be wielded well it won't be a great weapon. But a lightweight metal bar swing by a strong person will be a crushing blow. If I had the bat I would aim low, a really strong swing at the knee area. Nobody can block that and they sure won't be on their feet after getting hit by such a blow. I played a ton of baseball and know how hard I can swing a bat, so give me the bat anyday, I guess for someone with a shitty swing it's different.

So if the combatants are strong athletic people, the bat will be better imo. If not the knife might be better.

People are acting like a bat blow can be taken but any knife blow is fatal. I'd say a stab in the arm or isn't necessarily worse than a hard two handed bat strike to many easy to hit areas like the knees. Hell even a strike to the thighs or ass from a strong bat swinger would effectively end a flight. You'd need to either be a ninja to evade a good bat swing, or the bat swinger would need to suck at swinging a bat.

If the bat is good, give me the bat. The first blow would be crippling enough that the fight is over unless your opponent is a cyborg. In which case he could be a cyborg against a knife too.

Still one of the best stories was Sean Taylor, the Redskins player, unscrewing his bed post to defend himself after he heard some burglars in the middle of the night. Imagine 230lbs of muscle coming at you in his boxers with a bed post in his hands. Obviously the story became sad the next time it happened.

Other things of note.

I think the handed ness of the fighters matters. A lot. If it's lefty vs righty or righty vs lefty it favours the bat swinger big time. Think about which hand the knife will be held in and which side the bat strike will be coming from. If you manage to block the bat with the arm that holds the knife, there's a very good chance you lose the knife or your ability to use it with that hand.

So the knife wielder will benefit greatly if it's right vs righty, or the rare lefty-lefty. He can attempt to block with his nonknife holding arm.

Knife man moves forward, bat man moves back. He can't just bull rush him like everyones saying. The dude with the bat is gonna try keep his range while jabbing and swinging.

Also, everyone thinks EVERY strike from the bat is a full fledged homerun swing to obliberate his opponents head. Just a 20% power shot from a bat is gonna do serious damage while keeping bat guy in a good defensive mode.

Further more, even IF knife man gets inside, insanely hard task, it doesnt = insta-kill.

I disagree with your bat strategy. Bat swinger should commit to one extremely powerful swing. He doesn't have to wind back and be obvious, but when he swings, he should commit. A strong enough swing just cannot be absorbed. But a 20 percent power swing? Terrible idea. It'll have little effectiveness and has big potential downsides.

The bat advantage is that it should be able to make the first strike. Swung hard enough it can hit just about any body part with enough force to serious deter any normal human.

This is assuming the bat is an appropriate size for the swinger. A 110 lb woman trying to swing Julio Franco's 37 ounce wooden bat will be useless, but give her a little league 20 ounce composite bat and she's got a serious weapon. Lighter weight little league style bats will be the best for fighting.

Some specific points where I disagree with others:

1. You don't need to open with a swing with the bat, jabs are very effective.

2. Any hard hit with a bat is debilitating, at least temporarily. It doesn't matter where you hit.

.

I really agree with 2

I disagree with 1. Jabbing with the bat seems dumb to me because knife guy can potentially grab the bat if you do this.

The bat isnt worth much if you don't swing it hard. And the people that advocated a wood chopping motion seem wrong to me too. If you miss with that swing, your in a terrible spot.

But a hard downward plane baseball style swing to the knees cripples your opponent. And it allows you a quick recovery to swing again if your opponent eluded it somehow or was only faxed.

Give me a bat and let me choose opponents weapon, I choose knife.

Give me a knife and let me choose opponents weapon, I choose bat.

Give me no weapon and let me choose opponents weapon, I choose bat.

Give opponent no weapon and let me choose mine, I choose bat.

I think the only fair way to consider is that you are fighting an exact clone of yourself. Same skill, same physical attributes and same mindset. For me I am just more comfortable with the bat. If I had a bat I would relish the range advantage against a me with a knife. Me with a knife would be terrified of closing in on me with a bat.

I drop my bat and put my hands behind my head if I see a knife. But I have a second bat taped to my back.

This 1000%, guy with the knife can be a complete dummy and just charge with no defence and his chances are pretty good, add a block with the arm (high chance of it getting snapped) they are then free to stab the life out of the batter. Add in a feint to get the guy to swing first before charging and you're money. Having said all that it depends entirely on the person using each weapon, obviously....

I dunno. What if covid guy knocks knife guy out and gives him covid and he later dies.

Knife vs unarmed guy isn't 100% guy with knife.
