An hour? At my company interviews last all day, with maybe 5-6 hours of actual interviewing time (plus lunch). Even the bozos who get sent home early typically stay for two hours.

Is that a joke? I've never had any other interview go over 30-45 Minutes before and I have obviously been hired before.

It's going to be different from industry to industry. My sister went through tons of interviews at Starbucks before getting rejected. Not much you can tell from one interview based on the length.

i guess i missed the boat already but there was a recent big article in our newspaper here about how beards are making a comeback

they cited examples of of course celebrities like clooney, gylllenhall, preistly, and a bunch of others who started off their careers clean shaven but also regular joes and corporate drones and the reasons why everyone seems to have one nowadays

i think a few years ago this was might have looked down upon but if in today's world if i was interviewing with a company who wasn't up to date with current trends it would make me scared of the leadership/vision of the business and their inability to adapt to a changing environment

Or maybe they just want you to start clean-shaven (see your second sentence) and then you can grow a beard after you prove your not some grungy piece o'****?

what's the difference of when it happens, if their displeased you won't last long as their perception is that you have bad judgement

ok let me try to clarify this, beards are fashionable now, according to the experts

if someone has a grudge against beards, even though they are now acceptable alternatives then that person has a problem with change

i guess a bad analogy would be the company making you use hotmail instead of gmail or webcrawler instead of google because they can't handle new better things and are stuck in a time warp

those same celeberties that i said that are all sporting beards now would probably have been sporting them when they started their career if that's what the hipster/fashionistas say is the right way to present yourself

the issue i was trying to get across is that people get "set in their ways" even thought hey might not be relevant anymore

my experience has been that successful people reinvent themselves to thrive in the current situation

if someone is stuck in the past, then i would take a pass on them

i thought hurley from lost gave a nice acceptance speech last night for whatever award he won when he said that the character he originally auditioned for was supposed to be a redneck and get killed early on but he managed to convince them he was an asset, but this was only possible because the "bossmen" had an open mind

this is a wonderful theory but unfortunatley the people making the hiring decisions often won't know that beards are now "fashionable" according to the "experts". to many people a beard (particularly an ugly one like in the posted pics) will say "this guy doesnt care enough to shave his beard for the interview" - and that has nothing to do with having a problem with change. particularly when they don't even realize that things have supposedly changed.

personally i don't care what the "experts" say. if i'm interviewing and someone comes in with a stupid looking beard like that, that's a bad first impression and will bias my decision without a doubt.

if you're going to use appearance has a criteria for hiring then you should at the least understand what a proper appearance is, otherwise you shouldn't use knowledge you don't have

this would be like me knowing nothing about religion but passing judgement and saying a catholic priest is a satanist and a dark brooding person because they wear all black (yes this is over the top but there's few things i can't stand more than people who just won't ever admit to not having the answer or unable to say the phrase "i don't know let, me do some research and get back to you" when questioned about something they do not know)

i'm not an accountant so i wouldn't ever suggest or question how someone does their taxes, and most people who get/seek out positions involving hiring get/or had a big fat head and think their project managing or whatever skills transfer over to the fashion world, why do people think if they have success in one field that means they are qualified in other areas? arrogance i guess, good thing what goes up must come down

great, now that i've found a fashion expert in the corporate world who's willing to give advice for free how do you feel about the following:

bowtie
suspenders
cowboy ties
belt buckles
suits not colored black/blue
khaki pants with sport jacket
non white/blue shirts
3 piece vs 2 piece
3 button vs 2 button
contacts vs glasses
dress shoes with no laces
women who wear something other than pantsuit
perfume/cologne
jewelry

ok i might be getting a little greedy here, but if you could just answer just a few it would be truly insighful (sincerely) i know nothing about this stuff and would love to learn

sorry for so many questions, but this is the last one i promise, do you do any recruiting or just hiring? and if so what are acceptable recruiting methods? would you ever take anyone to a strip club or use other adult entertainment? what do you think of people who do use this technique? is that in "bad taste" or clever? is it ok to use sex to sell? if so, is it ok for a woman applicant to show cleavage and if so how much?

i have mental problems as i've already mentioned in some past posts, i'm still trying to figure it out myself, but i thought i was being attacked here first, maybe i'm wrong, i'm open to help and criticism

i thought i was contributing to the discussion but my impression was people were hijacking the threads to talk about me instead of the idea at hand, sorry if i misinterpreted, as i said my mind doesn't work right

"small minds talk about people, mediocre minds talk about events, and great minds talk about ideas"

sorry again for discussing ideas, when people wanted to talk about me, and no i'm not an ass, just the greatest

bowtie - if you can pull it off
suspenders - if you can pull it off
cowboy ties - dunno what that is
belt buckles - varies
suits not colored black/blue - probably not
khaki pants with sport jacket - lol no
non white/blue shirts - probably not
3 piece vs 2 piece - 3 piece looks like youre trying too hard
3 button vs 2 button - if you can pull off 1 button you're awesome
contacts vs glasses - completely individual
dress shoes with no laces - depends on the shoe
women who wear something other than pantsuit - skirtsuits are much better
perfume/cologne - don't overdo it
jewelry - watch/wedding ring is fine, anything else you probably look dumb

ok i might be getting a little greedy here, but if you could just answer just a few it would be truly insighful (sincerely) i know nothing about this stuff and would love to learn

sorry for so many questions, but this is the last one i promise, do you do any recruiting or just hiring? - neither

and if so what are acceptable recruiting methods? would you ever take anyone to a strip club or use other adult entertainment? what do you think of people who do use this technique? is that in "bad taste" or clever? - expensing that stuff would be difficult

is it ok to use sex to sell? if so, is it ok for a woman applicant to show cleavage and if so how much? - depends entirely on the job
