I thought SPAM was only there as a cheap alternative for the poors. I don't see any real reason to choose it over normal ham.

I've never tried it either. Not because I think it's food for poor people and I am above eating it, I am just a fussy eater and get put off foods quite easily, I think it was the smell that did it for me with spam though it was a very long time ago I can't remember what it smells like.
Funnily enough, I don't recall ever having eaten SPAM, but I have it in my head that the smell is pungent and gross. Do not want.

Exactly. There was a stretch of time when I was 12 that I was doing this. Don't think I've had any since. But will buy some soon, as I want to relive the memory of that dry browned spam.

It's awesome. I actually prefer this stuff though, which is similar

Funnily enough it's cheaper than spam too, because it goes off like a month after its used by date, so it goes on special really early in to it's cycle. Don't quote me on that though, don't want anyone to die haha.

Used to eat a lot of this growing up. When my mum was away and left Dad in charge he would cook some variation of spam plus eggs... Which is the only thing he knew how to make.

Spam battered in duck eggs and deep fried was the highlight... There were many more low lights...

SPAM came before spam, but spam being named after SPAM certainly is valid.

True. Lot-o-SPAM haters itt probably stuff $1 packs of franks into their pieholes without realizing it's the same garbage, if not worse.

Don't do it, HB. It'll lead to a foie gras addiction.

The Spam Museum in Austin, Minnesota, headquarters of Hormel, is surprisingly engaging.

Not sure how Spam got a reputation as poor people food. It's ~$4/pound. An actual ham is <$2.

I think it was originally made from pigs that dies of smallpox. Maybe there was something about that in the museum, idk.

We here at Family Treesong are Spam cognoscenti. Seriously. Mrs. T routinely makes a delicious Spam fried rice. And having grown up in Hawai'i, she also makes wonderful Spam musubi, which is basically Spam sushi -- i.e. fried spam on a block of rice wrapped with a seaweed band to keep it all together. I fry Spam and eggs on weekend mornings, or sometimes grill it on the gas grill. And after I get through my annual physical with an adequate blood numbers, I'll usually fire up some bacon-wrapped spam for a seriously cholesterolic yearly treat.

Go for it, Howard.

Weird, early this morning I decided to cook some eggs and was going to go with some corn beef and hash as a pairing. I was out and only found a can of spam, it had to be at least 5 years old. Tasted pretty good fried to a golden brown. Pretty salty tho

I'm pretty sure that eating processed meat like this has been proven to increase your chance of getting certain cancers. But yeah by all means, dig in!
