This is your friend's preference--girls who would be illegal for him to have sex with. No one has total control over his preferences, which is why you can't "cure" gayness. It has no effect on these girls that he's looking at their pictures, and if your friend enjoys this outlet to satisfy his young-girl preference, whatever. A lot of people get blinded by their own abhorrence of the idea of adults being sexually attracted to minors, and can't think rationally. They also assume that preferring minors means you'll necessarily seek one out in the real world, and by virtue of your innate preferences, you're a criminal. Sometimes I watch horse porn, but I'm never going to sneak out to a stable somewhere and try to actually make it happen--just the porn is enough. Your friend is likely the same way. Knowing nothing else about him, I'd put him as a huge dog to ever go out and even attempt to commit a sexual act with a minor.

I unfriended a guy IRL in part because he came over and insisted on logging in to FB on my laptop. He wanted to show me "all the hotties" he talks with. He logs in, goes to profiles of girls that are 16-18 years old (he's 32 at the time), then scrolls to the very bottom (their first pics posted so we're looking at them at around 13? 14?) and he's all "omg dude look look...SOO PRETTY OMG..." It was one of the creepiest moments of my life.

The biggest issue isn't necessarily the effect it has on those *specific* girls.

The biggest problem is that it creates a demand for the material that is created by exploiting girls and monetarily rewarding the people that create that material - incentivizing them to create more.

If the effect on the girls was no BFD then the incentive to provide the pics wouldn't be an issue.

He was talking about the effect of "looking at the pictures". Because people like him often justify the looking at the pictures with the logic that they're already made and any damage is already done so its not like looking at them does anything.

I think I remember reading a study that showed that looking at child porn increased the likelyhood of actually ****ing a child. Not sure how they controlled for the obvious fact that only people who look at child porn want to **** children. But the gist of it was that letting pedos look at pics as a way to "let of steam" wasnt a valid solution. I could possibly be remembering it all wrong though.

Also, I dont believe pedos are hard wired from birth the way gay people are, because if you get molested as a child you are much more likely to become a child molester, so it appears to at least be a psychologically induced trait in at least a percentage of pedos, and so I would guess it's that way with all pedos.
