the screen resolution thing is a HUGE deal.

Meh, the phone on the original was terrible, couldn't hear anything unless it was perfectly quiet, was useless walking the streets, in a bar, with TV on, etc. Was a simple fix, but pretty sure getting a working phone is a bigger hardware upgrade than this.

In regards to the plug in and go comments:
For the record Im guessing that about 25% of iPhone users know how to use iTunes optimally for the iPhone. Probably 25% of iPhone owners never even use iTunes at all and had someone else activate the phone for them.. Just gonna put that out there....

Re: 4th Generation iPhone Announcement Expected at 1PM EST
Few Questions...
1. Did they upgrade the processing chip or the ram?
2. Once I upgrade can I have them switch my 3G over to my wifes number who is on the same plan?
3. Will you be able to preorder online or do I have to go camp out?

Re: 4th Generation iPhone Announcement Expected at 1PM EST
Seems like a good upgrade, but I'm not rushing for it. My 3G's screen broke a couple weeks back (it still works fine, but the outer screen is shattered all over the place) and I still think I'll wait for Windows 7 Phone Series phones (especially HTC's) to come out before I make an upgrade decision, especially considering that contracts are 3 years in Canada. I haven't seen much talk about W7 except for what I googled about it for a research project, but I think it's very promising.

What do you mean by "using iTunes" optimally? It's the most self-explanatory thing ever. You put your music in iTunes, and you plug your phone in. How much harder does it get? How much more optimal can I use mine (half sarcastic only here)?

but it's clear you have no idea how much competitors have caught up

Re: 4th Generation iPhone Announcement Expected at 1PM EST
For the reasons given above, by ungol, I was a little underwhelmed with this. I have my 3Gs and love it. I'll have to weigh having to stick to friggin AT&T for even longer as the phone competition has narrowed lately. I'll also have to wait until someone breaks 4.0 first because I'm not losing out of my tethering/etc.

Re: 4th Generation iPhone Announcement Expected at 1PM EST
Same here. Another consideration: I am definitely not upgrading if it looks like a Verizon version is one the way, as an extra year of AT&T is a pretty steep price to pay.
Assuming I were upgrading or buying a new one: I'd have accepted a thicker iPhone, even thicker than the existing one, as a tradeoff for more battery life and certain other features (camera optics and flash, for example). What it seems we've gotten is about the least exciting release possible, considering what else is out there these days.

Re: 4th Generation iPhone Announcement Expected at 1PM EST
Atak, fwiw, it seems more and more likely, if not confirmed, that AT&T and apple have a 5 year exclusivity agreement, so I don't how Verizon can get past that, despite the rumors. It wouldn't surprise me if they don't come out with a version next year either, but I guess it's just speculation as well.
Like others said, this was apple seemingly catching up with most of these additions.

The iPhone4 is based on the A4 processor found in the iPad, should be much faster than the 3GS.
