Wow, there are only 3 WWI veterans left alive today. 2 are from the UK, and a lone American, Frank Buckles, who is 109 years old. Buckles also served in WWII and was taken hostage by Japan. Sick life. He served in WWI illegally as a 16 year old who lied about being 18. So crazy that some of these guys remain living in 2010.

Interesting. On a related note, list of last occurences.

Some of them are veterans, but more specific like "January 10 [2009] - Bill Stone, last surviving veteran to have served in the British Armed Forces in both world wars, dies at age 108." They also have animals and technology.

Owsley Stanley -

-First large scale producer of pure LSD in the early 60's

-Estimated 5 million hits (of 100 micrograms each) of 99.9% pure LSD were thought to have been produced by him.

-Was also a sound engineer and worked with The Grateful Dead as soundman and financier. He also designed the lightning bolt skull logo.

-The iconic "Dancing Bears" also first appeared on the reverse cover of this album, painted by Thomas as an inside reference to Stanley; dubbed "Bear" as a young teen when he sprouted body hair before the rest of his friends, he had studied ballet in his early 20s and displayed a distinctive style of dancing while tripping on LSD at shows—becoming what his friends called "The Dancing Bear".

-The Jimi Hendrix cover version of the Beatles song "Day Tripper", from a 1967 BBC session first released on CD in 1987, features Jimi Hendrix clearly shouting out, "Oh Owsley, can you hear me now?" during the climactic guitar solo.

Buckles didn't serve in WWII; he was captured as a civilian. Also, he lied that he was 21 years old when he enlisted.

As Bader had no legs he could remain conscious that much longer and thus had an advantage over more able-bodied opponents.
