Obviously it's annoying to get sprayed by blood or something silly like that when in a concert, but such antics are a very rare occurrance.
More Wikipedia links and less wimps and posers discussing matters they don't have a clue about, please!
It is true. The metal scene that started in the late 80s and lasted until the late 90s was really something else. Look at old Mushroomhead (before they tried to make it), Gwar, Gentorturers, and others. Marilyn Manson was a watered-down version of what was found in small clubs. Sure, most fans of the genre weren't exactly bible-thumpers, but everyone was in on the joke.
The other side was very dark and often full of wild contradictions. I once attended a concert that, unbeknownst to us, was Christian screamo / metal. It was full of real-deal nazi skinheads and brutally violent. There was whole scene full of truly messed up people.
The majority of punkers and metal heads I met are the most down-to-earth and kindest people you'd ever meet. No bull****, but always full of positive energy. It's just a creative outlet and full of silly jokes poking fun at what we call normal society. If you approach it all from that, it starts to make sense.
With that said, if musicians are going to go out and be *******s, then whatever.
