If money wasn't a issue, what would you do with you life? If money wasn't a issue, what would you do with you life?

Well you ldo could stop working with 100k per year coming in. But you couldn't live like a king or anything and would have to be somewhat budget conscious. No job means nothing to do all day which dramatically increases your burn rate. I know some landlord that don't have too much to do and make that kind of money. They hang out at the card club all day to kill time and do an awesome trip or two per year.

Did I say you had to stop working?

Instead some "job" you could do something really interesting, something you're passionate about. That was the point of the thread.

So he says job I say lol

Its also funny he thinks 100k year isn't sufficient enough to travel

Edit: Depending on where you live, 100k per year for life is certainly enough to stop working

-hire an architect to design and build a massive modern estate on the cote d'azur.
-new rolls royce, new lambo. whenever they come out with new ones.
-a staff: chef, maids, butler, the full downton abbey treatment.
-iwc portuguese siderale scafusia, a. lange & sohne 1815 tourbillion, and a patek perpetual calendar chronograph
-a bigass yacht, like the biggest newest yacht in the world, better than abramovich's billion dollar yacht, so that wherever i go, i can just hang out in the marina bar and go to any sexy ladies, just be like, 'hey, come hang out with me on my boat. that's my boat.' and they'll be like 'lol what husband? who's jay z?'

and i might run for president of france while i'm there, but i wouldn't campaign i'd just buy ads on everything and spend time in monte carlo playing poker like a total ******* not even trying to win, just havin fun tossin plaques.

aside from that i'd spend all day getting high and playing videogames. and maybe my butler or house manager can organize some charity stuff, but not on MY TIME.

Maybe in some of the nice parts of America you couldnt live like a king, but there is a lot of the world where you would be super rich and there is a lot of America where you would still be classed as rich.

You would have more financial security than 99.x% of Americans and you could fill your days with anything ranging from netflix, to learning to cook/paint/whittle or just volunteer at a charity or go travelling in Asia for as long as you want etc.

I feel like I am taking crazy pills when 100k/yr guaranteed with nothing to do is perceived by some closer to being a hardship than winning the lottery (except better because most lottery winners end up broke)

Well that's exactly my point. On such a limited budget I'd have to spend lots of time not spending money. So yes, I could sit at home watching netflix or whittling but I'd rather just go to work.

Actually about 11% of American families and 6% of American individuals make six figures. It's a lot of money, but it's not an insanely great, unattainable achievement.

Great question. Dunno why I didn't open this thread earlier.

I would build the most lavish, most expensive house possible. Or perhaps buyout/evict all the people on the top floors of some swanky New York apartment and take the top, say, 4 floors all to myself.

I've thought about the latter before. One thing I'd really want is an elevator straight down to my car(s) that nobody else can access. My own specific elevator, my own security team (independent of that for the apartment building as a whole). I'd hire staff from my favorite restaurants to provide 24/7 service. Theaters, basketball courts, pools ...

And, of course, all that other luxury stuff that ScreaminAsian alluded to.

In a slightly darker fantasy, I'd love being some kind of badass supervillain, and infinite money would certainly help with that.

And they can get fired/made redundant. Living paycheck to paycheck doesn't stop being financially unstable when it's large.

I would golf every morning. I would then spend the time that my kids were in school doing some sort of charity work (probably something outdoors). I would then spend most of my remaining time with my wife and kids. Obviously peppering in some time with close friends and extended family.

That's it. And I'd be as happy as a clam.

100K per year might be alright if you are single and stay single forever.

If you have a family then the poster who said get job is correct. 100K per year is just not that much money, it just isn't. In most parts of the country you cannot even buy a nice house in a good school district for 100k or anywhere if close to that cheap. There are many families making more than 100k per year that are living paycheck to paycheck.

travel the world first and foremost, I would hit EVERY spot worth seeing, golf, scuba and snorkel, hike mountains, snow board, ski, spend tons of time at nice beaches(oceans and lakes both), go to pro sporting events, eat the goods, drink the goods, make it rain without the strippers

Then those families are idiots living out of their means.

Also, no one expects to buy a house with one year's income...

100k a year is a ton of money and anyone who isn't spoiled as crap will have no problems with it.

It is not a ton of money. It is a middle class income. Do you want to rename this thread "what would you do with your life if you had a middle class income"?

Sure you COULD live on 100k somewhat comfortably. Good luck living luxuriously or not having to worry about money like the thread title says. Personally I aspire to a little bit more and certainly wouldn't stop working if I plan on living in first world countries.

I think it would need be about 175-200k before I'd stop working altogether.
