Unfortunately he's certain to have friends who will respond to the blatantly manipulative pleas for attention and copy his status. But it would be really funny if nobody did. And even funnier if he reposted with a "come on guys, do none of you care about me at all?". And still nobody copied his status.

When a random classmate from high school sends you a friend request, I'm guessing you don't accept those. Because if you did, you'd get familiar with viral status updates pretty quickly, and incidentally you'd have more material for this thread. A friend on my Facebook has been threatening/planning to "leave" Facebook for several months now. Every week or so she posts an update that reads something like (translated from Swedish):

Not really a status, but a friend of a friend posted this picture of her new tattoo.

I responded "Flies*", and she said something along the lines of "that's when it has to do with the animal, but thanks", then deleted both comments. I sent her a link of the definition of flies, and she removed me as a friend.
