what airline in history has ever sold tickets for a specific time? those are estimated times and are often wrong. there's no money back guarantee or anything similar if you don't get your "specific time".

Sorry. I'm sure hilarity would have ensued, but too much of it coming at my expense. Another option I briefly considered was to make her my step-daughter. But I made the boring choice of dismissing the family member notification and now it is gone forever. (BOOOOOOOO!)

You're completely wrong. In fact, a couple of flights ago I got the whole ticket price refunded to me (even documented here on 2+2).

Airlines don't cover things beyond their control (like weather, volcanoes) or minor delays - but almost all airlines will give you money back if they screw up (mechanical problems for the plane, crew problems, whatever) and cause a significant delay.
