No, it's a lot more prevalent than just Dolezal. It's in the idea that you are allowed to self-identify. You are not bound by your genetics, gender, etc., but rather you are empowered to be whatever you want to be. But then this is the same crowd that will argue Suzzer is appropriating Hawaiian culture which is not allowed.

You see this all the time in Hollywood:

Oh she's completely serious. Since she's arguing with people who all accept transgender people, she keeps pointing out that if you replace 'black' with 'women' they'd all feel really gross making that argument. Really pisses off all the black and transgender people reading it.

I almost don't believe that.

Generally my quote was an exaggeration until two weeks ago when I invited a coworker over to work on something in my home office. When they arrived my freshly moved in Israeli neighbors were outside with their baby and we exchanged hellos. When the husband remarked that my colleagues car looked a little beaten up and he had a guy who could give him a great deal he replied "I love a great deal, what can I say I'm a Jew."

Now I know this dude isn't Jewish so I'm looking at him like wtf. The wife jumps in and invites him to the Passover dinner she had invited me and my girl to earlier. At this point my coworker had to relent and admit that he was "just joking" and not really Jewish which she found to be in terrible taste.

Previous examples have been more like someone saying their Jewish to a Jewish agent or producer only to be called out by a friend that they never mentioned this before.

"Do you believe the polls that President Trumps approval rating is at 40%? I don't think that's right."

Part of me feels I should be dropping lines like this around people with whom I can sort of get away with it.
