I'm looking for a entry-level luxury sports car, ranging from 40-50K(max) CDN $.

on my list are the following:

1) Audi A4 2.0 (4 cylinder only though, okay?)
-quattro 41K (doesn't include R8 headlights =( though)
-quattro premium (extra 4.5K, include R8 lights and some other premium package stuff)
-3.2 V6 $51K (includes stuff premium package has with bigger more powerful gas consuming engine)

2) BMW 3 series
prolly the 328xi for 45K or so, 335xi coupe is around 53K too expensive i think

3) Mercedes C-class (more expensive than the first 2 in terms of $/value) probably 230 to 300 anything else is too expensive
ranges from 40-50k as well

Other obvious options which are kinda meh: lexusIS350, infinitig35/37

interested in comparison of the first 3) and the different models. I'm looking for style/comfort with good handling+performance. no cars like lancer evo/sti/charger

Why not buy used and get something nicer?

What's wrong with the G35/37? From what I understand, these cars are rockets.

What about new Acura TL? Larger than the cars you list and more in line with 5-series, E-series, and A6, but better priced.

My first car was a 66 Chevy Impala. It wasn't particularly luxurious. And then I set the front seat on fire from the smoldering embers of a "cigarette". But it ran pretty good.

Anyway, I wouldn't recommend a 66 Chevy Impala.

My only comment is that spending $50k on an A4 would be absolutely ******ed.

These are essentially rebadged jettas.

Of the options listed, I say go with a 3-series BMW that's about 2-3 years old. (330)

these threads seem to always transition into "buy used or new?" and then into "should i get circumsized"

Build quality and refinement on Audi is way higher, even if they share some of the same VW technology.

That said, I think paying $50k for one of these is ridiculous when you know what you can buy used at that price. Keep in mind, however, that OP is from Canada and cars are more expensive there, and the conversion rate does not work in their favor.

If you're buying new I think those are all good choices. Your next step would be to test drive each one of them and not make a decision based on the responses you get to a post on a poker forum.

1) well i've considered used, but i don't really see how that saves much money in a span of say 6 years.

let's say i buy a 50K car, in 6 years i can sell it for around 20K. So i spent 30K.
now if i buy a used car, i will prolly buy it for 30k, and sell it for 5-10K in 6 years.

so that means i saved 10K or so to buy a car i don't like as much. my family bought me and my brother a used 2002 civic (which my brother took too) that kept dying on me recently. i'm willing to pay the extra 10K for something new and reliable to get me to work downtown.

2) G35's is ok, my dad had this car so i don' really want it. it's kinda big and heavy on gas, and powerful yes, but not too classy and handling is meh compared to its german counterparts.

TL i really liked (strangely enough my dad had one b4 too) but the new model is way 2 ugly

3) yes i'm canadian.. so u can divide the prices i stated by like 1.22(exchange)*1.10(random premiums)= 1.34 which is like what canadians pay for luxury cars vs u yanks

bmw135i...introduced in '08 to fill the gap that the 3-series left when it got too big. it was consumer reports' "funnest to drive" for 2009 and the 3rd highest rated sports car overall for 2009 (best for its price). basically exactly what you're looking for.

i'm buying one sometime before this summer

135 while the engine is the same as 335.. looks like a 3 series that got miniaturized in some compressing machine

don't really want a smallish car

this is what i've been told.. was wondering if any one has actually tested or been in any of these or had suggestions for other models

i don't think getting a used saves that much money actually over the 5-6 years i plan on keeping this car

It's not straight-line depreciation. You take a much bigger hit in the first two years than you do in the following two years.

Depreciation because of milage also affects newer cars more dramatically than older ones.

yah, honda's are notorious for being really unreliable vehicles.

ya u will definitely pay more for a used im not arguing that, but itll be around 10K more.

here's an idea, how about i buy a used 2009 car in 2009 or 2010?
ideally u save 1/3 off a car once it leaves the lot, but how much will dealers give it to you for? 3/4?

This is standard, ldo.

I bought a 94' accord w/ 130k miles on it 5-6 years ago for ~$4k

It's worth about 2-3k now, and has 190k miles on it. Only thing I've had done is oil changes and a tuneup.

Compared to other price-comparable user-car options, you will not find a more financially sound decision than buying a used toyota or honda.

Also, if given the options in OP, i'd probably go w/ IS350, but 3-series is probably the best fit given your desires.
