Re: was I naive in new orleans
If you were gay or racist this never would have happened. Something to think about.

This. Hey OP next time a ghetto dude comes up to you downtown and says they just got off the bus from Milwaukee and someone stole their bag and they just need a couple bucks, he's lying.

I'd snap replace both. Why would you only replace one of the items? Yes, you are responsible. If he's not asking, it's because he pities you. So he's a nice guy, and you got his **** stolen.
Are you hoping for one of those OOT logic miracles where people vehemently argue that you should NOT replace them?

If op had any street smarts at all, he would know to not trust a stranger after they take take a pic of you typing in your pin number. Let alone trust one at all.

Re: was I naive in new orleans
For the record New Orleans is a really awesome place to visit. But when you do some of the amazingly, incredibly, spectacularly stupid things OP did people will take advantage of you.
And yeah when you let a thief in to your room and disappear behind a locked door for a few minutes you're on the hook if your friend's stuff gets stolen. You're a complete douche if you don't replace your friend's stuff.

Re: was I naive in new orleans
Replacing the stuff is a 100% automatic play here. Not even a question imo. Really impressed by roommate not asking about it too.
If you were the guy who left an ipad and ipod in a locked room, and then the guy let some thief in there who ran out with the stuff, wouldn't you think it was completely his fault?

Re: was I naive in new orleans
I'm skeptical of this story, especially when you claim you have street smarts.

Next time you go take a piss, tell the whore to keep clapping her hands till you get back. If the clapping stops while you're pissing, you know she's stealing your ****.
