Anyone know how to troubleshoot a busted TV? Anyone know how to troubleshoot a busted TV?

I looked around on google but couldn't find much help.

My LCD I bought from Best Buy about 2 years ago won't power up right now. When it is plugged in there is a orange light that goes on so I assume the cord is fine since it produces some semblance of power.

I called the manufacturer all they told me to do was unplug it for 60 seconds and plug it back in. When I called Best Buy they asked me for $150 just to visit and promised nothing.

Is there anything else I can do to inspect the TV besides play with the plug and outlet? Are TV repairmen worth the cost or should I just junk the thing?

My parents had a similar situation but I think they bought the TV from another store. Ill try and remember the name because the store was awesome and after 18 months gave them their full purchase price back (My dad then goes and buys two of the same Tv in the same visit).

Tv Repairmen are never worth it, well at least not here in the UK where there never gonna cost less than a couple of hundred. Seems a shame to junk the thing though. Is taking it to a Best Buy an option? Obviously a hassle but would save the ridiculous 150 call out charge.

I think it was $150 for them to look at it regardless if I bring it to them or they come to me. Guess its there way to nail people who don't get the extended warranty.

You'd be better off looking for a small independent retailer that also does repairs in-house. The big box stores won't help you and if they do the cost will make buying a new one a better option.

Find some teenager electronics geek on an internet forum. Those are willing to do anything for another month of World of Warcraft subscription.

That's why you ALWAYS BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY

But in all seriousness, I'd guess your LCD bulb has burnt out. Buy another TV, just not at Best Buy.

Is that a joke? Buying the extended warranty is very -EV. You should never buy it.

Do like I used to do with my old NES and just pound the side of it with your fist until it works. Hell that nintendo kept working for years after it first started ****ing up. I just had to knock some sense into it every time before I played it.

Go to the avsforum and post this question on the LCD flat panel board with the brand and model number of your set. They will definately have an answer for you very quickly about what the problem is. It is very likely there is already a few posts on sets with the same problem. Could be as simple as needing a firmware reset.

I love this site. I post a question and a few hours later the thread is full of a combination of useful links, hysterical nintendo references and terrible jokes all in one.

I always was told the extended warranty was -EV especially with TVs.
