The majority of subsidies go to big agro companies because less than one percent of the US population works in agriculture.
Look at this I googled what perecentage of food imported in US

So considering like 80 percent of US vegetable agriculture is corn we arent really growing too much nutritious food.
Also have you guys ever thought of what would happen in an economic crises? Food prices would rise drastically and food supplies might stop all together. Having local gardens all around the states wwouldn't be bad at a time like that.
