Waxie; sometimes the biggest problem actually is the acquisition of the weed itself. One medium which has helped me secure marijuana many times is the internets. Mainly chat rooms. Most cities have a chat room on IRC. And many IRC:ers smoke weed.
Of course you wont be able to get anything instantly, you might need to build some trust for a few days. If this approach isn't good for you, I would advice you to walk trough parks, go to campuses or other high populated youth areas and just use your nose to try and find some herb.

$20 a gram for really good, $65 for an 8th, which is about 3.5 grams

$10 a gram for the commercial green(guessing), and $50 for a quarter, which is 7 grams.

I'd get a gram of the kush to try it out and ask him how much for a half ounce or an ounce depending on how much you want.
At $20 a gram, a half ounce translates to $280 and an ounce $560, so his prices should be lower than these for bulk purchases. I'd guess he says around $240 a half and $450 and ounce.

He sounds fine. Let him know you're cool(which you're not being really, but that can change) when you first meet and everything should be ok.

also, cops don't really sell weed and entrap small-time buyers. it's way more dangerous for the sellers on cl than the buyers. the cops just want to buy from dealers and work their way up.

the buyers bigger danger is getting rolled. just make it a public place.
