Re: How far can you walk/run in 24 hours?

I had to read the Dids post over a couple times... 15mph rate would be a 4 minute mile, right? Haha, something must have short circuited in his brain, imo.

Sorry- brain fart. That was "15 minute miles" which is what I recall myself walking at the last time I tried to time myself.

By "15 minute miles", do you mean walking a single mile in 15 minutes? That would be an elderly, handicapped person's pace, imo.

That was 2005. I was very fat. I guess I might be faster to start- but functionally my grandfather rather quickly.

4 mph is a fairly brisk walking pace, Al. Anyone should be able to do that for an hour, but keeping it up for 24 is going to be a pretty difficult task unless you're in very good shape and have trained at it.

Anyone saying greater than 100 is kidding themselves. I've seen countless well-trained runners succumb to the task at various trail races.

It's tougher than you could ever imagine.

Al,

Huh? 15 minute mile is a pretty brisk walk. It's 4 on a treadmill.

15 minute miles = 4 mph which is a very brisk walking pace for a healthy adult.

Only someone in really good shape can maintain a 4 mph walking pace for hours and hours on end.

Huh - according to wiki, the average walking speed is about 3.1 mph. For some reason I had "walking a 12 minute mile" as something more along the lines of an average (as you can tell I don't run very much). My bad, guess the 4 mph is much more a jogging/brisk walking mix speed.

Oh and Dids mentioned he'd be able to keep up whatever pace he was referring to for 5-6 hours, and that the 4 mph would be his top speed declining over that period. Was commenting more on that - understood trying to keep it up for a 24 hour period or something would be very difficult.

My walking pace is 18mins/mile. 15 is snappy.
