I've tried a few pills given to me by friends and had uber-productive days. Also had awesome workouts in the gym. Really liked it.

How easy is it to get a psychiatrist to prescribe it for you? I know it's tightly-controlled, but can I just go in there and say that I've tried it a few times from friends, found it really helped my concentration/productivity at work (all true), and would like a prescription of my own?

I suspect the answer to the above is no, so if that's the case, just what are the symptoms I have to convince a Dr. I have in order to get it. Though I'm sure it varies from doc to doc, is it relatively easy to get a script from them given how widely Adderall is used?

It's probably pretty easy given how easy it is to find on the street and how cheap they are.

Very very hard / impossible in the UK.

Europe is considerably less liberal with that sort of thing.

Not the same drug, but flying is much easier for me with Xanax so I called my doctor for some before a trip this weekend and he sent a script for a bottle of 20...with two refills.

Took me two sessions with a psychologist after getting a referal from reg doc. Get my prescription monday. Go to library and skim driven to distraction for what you need to say.

You still need to provide some kind of valid reason for the script, however. Just make sure you don't walk in there with absolutely no knowledge of the symptoms of attention-deficit or something else that would qualify you for the drug. It also depends on your doctor. A lot of doctors are much more liberal prescribing "lesser drugs" than the ones that are more commonly abused. I seem to recall one of my friends actually telling the doctor he had problems concentrating and had tried a couple Adderall from his brother and that they seemed to help him out. He got a prescription for them that day.

Overall I'd say it's one of the easier scripts to get, shouldn't be an issue if you aren't an idiot.

It is very dependent on the practitioner prescribing. You should have an initial visit with a primary care provider, followed by intense testing by a LP, followed by a visit with the original primary care provider before being given the script.

However, many physicians/PA's/NP's are going to be lazy and just write the script and ask that you follow up with a LP.

a bit off topic, but a friend of mine told me that stimulants like this are much worse for you if taken rarely. Is there any truth to this or is he just defending his coke habit?

Well, if you take them rarely, they'll affect you much more strongly, and the come-down period will probably be a little harder.

So if you're used to taking uppers all the time, you'll think you're feelin' fine. But no, it's not really any less dangerous as long as you're taking a reasonable amount.

(But you do build up a tolerance, so his regular dose would probably hurt a first-timer. This does not validate his point.)
