I've noticed the past year or so my hair density getting thinner. Today as I got a haircut the stylist mentioned to me what I expected but didn't really want to hear ...it's starting the process of going away on my crown near the back of my head.

It's in my genes though, but I would still like it to not happen. I'm only 24. I mean, c'mon amirite?

Some people are meant to be bald. They look great without hair. For instance, this guy:

I am not one of these people. I would like to keep my hair.

So has anyone else out there had these issues and if so, have you tried treatment that has (or has not) worked for you and if so, what kind of advice can you give about different types of treatments etc.

I appreciate your comments and thank you in advance.

If you're balding at 24, the best advice has to be just get over it and deal with being bald. It's going to happen, almost every attempt to cover it up will look worse than if you just give in.

I seem to remember a very extensive 2+2 thread about baldness, where some actual helpful advice was given regarding nioxin and some other stuff, but am too lazy and unbald to dig it up.

You could dig up the old thread in the archive search. The cliffs notes on that thread was Propecia + minoxidil (Rogaine) is very effective.

I've been shaving my head nekkid since I was like 20. Consider growing a better shaped head.

I started that thread almost 3 years ago, been using the generic Rogaine, still in the same shape I was then. I even stopped using it for a few months (started to thin out again), and started again and it's all good. I was 26 when I started it, so it's not that far off. I have friends who are my age and are WAY bald. Just start on it early.

You can get a 6 month supply for like $20 at Costco.

This is the best advice. I started going bald when I was like 20/21 (7 yrs ago), I eventually just started shaving my head. As it turns out, I really like being bald.

Also, just remember what Doyle said, this will make you as good looking as any guy:

There is only 2 things to try, propecia and rogaine. I definately recommend Propecia, it'll stop the process, and its 20 bucks a month with insurance.

I wish I could get away with a shaved head. I look like an escaped rapist when I do it though.

I'm 23 and my hair seems to be rapidly falling out. I plan on going the propecia route soon. I've heard aloe vera + wheat germ oil can promote hair growth and is overall way better for your hair than a typical shampoo.

propecia just stops the decay and doesn't make your hair grow back. so i wouldn't waste any time ignatius haha.

My dad is 65 and doesn't have any gray or missing hairs. I think I'll be alright.

If the gene came from there, you may be right. My hair at 29 is thinner than my dad's was at 52 when he died. His younger brother was bald as a cueball as far back as I could remember.
