Hiring guys from the Home Depot parking lot

Anyone ever done this? How was your experience?

I'm thinking about hiring some guys tomorrow though my job is a bit different than what they probably usually get. I'm putting stickers on sunglasses. It's pretty tricky getting them not to bend/bubble/etc, but I can also afford for them to botch it up frequently as long as most of them are good.

P.S. No one in OOT will have done this since i'm pretty sure we don't have any building contractors here.

My dad did this all the time for weird jobs he did around the house like laying down tiles, painting, knocking down walls, moving, etc. Can get a great deal if you live in a town with a bunch of Mexicans. Remember they will not be reporting this income or paying taxes on it, so be sure to lowball them!!!!!! Let them know that you know!!!!

Re: Hiring guys from the Home Depot parking lot

My parents hire from Home Depot on occasion for some light work around the house. Never had a problem.

Just remember the people you are hiring are hard working, but also opportunists. They aren't going to slit your throat the first time you turn around to steal your Casio. But don't leave them alone with small items of value that might fall into their pockets. Hand them a can of pop on their way out so they don't come back that night and throw a brick thru your window or piss on your door.

I think that you might be better suited hiring a HS kid of craigslist or something for this kind of work. That being said, when I lived in an area with a high hispanic population this was a good way to go for yard work, light construction stuff, ect.

Yeah this is good too, but my big problem is I need a lot of them done between noon and 4:30 tomorrow and I don't think I could round up the labor via CL quick enough.

When I worked at Disney, they had women putting price tags on things. Probably a good idea.

Hard to find an American who wants to work really hard for $10/hour.

I've had great success hiring day laborers, I've found them to be very hard working and easy to find and reliable. Way better than guys you hire of criagslist who are no-shows half the time and pains in the butt the other half.

BTW the real answer is that you should hire from your local day labor center. It's better for the workers and the community if they are hired from a safe sponsored place rather than just off the side of the road.

Well I got 10 infraction points for my post for being political and telling someone to kill themselves (obviously sarcastically)...lol

Yes they do work hard but most Americans will works hard for $10 but you can pay home debt ppl $5hr. And yes you can go to places like labor ready and get workers as well. (next 10 coming I am sure possibly even a bad for my response)

Pay them for every acceptable pair, not per hour.
