OK, one of my favorite sites is wimp.com, for cool videos. I saw a random video on sugar gliders, omg I have never even heard of these animals, but after I watched this thing I googled it and there are multiple sites to buy these critters, my state included. I almost just bought the whole package, but held off, until at least after our ski trip to Big Sky at New Years. I still don't know how I can resist. Any OOT experience with these? Lets here your stories of your experiences with exotic pets.

I just don't see how anyone can resist getting a whole crew of sugar gliders.

A chick I know has them and loves them. They seem pretty cool. That is all I got for you. You're welcome.

They like to cling to the side of the cage and see how far out they can shoot piss streams on your floor.

If that's not a big deal to you, get some.

It's called a lid, most fishtanks and all non-chelonian-filled vivariums have them.

YAY EXOTIC PETS. I won't be stopping you. Biggest downside is that they can tie you down I guess, you have to make holiday arrangements and it's much harder to move countries (or just plain move) when you've got a lot of pets.

Many people keep sugar gliders in cages. I guess it's cool to keep them in a fish tank. I don't really know.

For serious purchases like this, it's usually good to not make a quick impulse buy, but wait two or three months, research all you can in the mean time and then if you really want, pull the trigger.

Yeah, it amazes me the no. of people who buy pets but know nothing about caring for them. Goldfish are probably the most mistreated pets.

You sound like you want it because "omg its so cool!" Thats a pretty ****ty reason to decide to take on the responsibility for caring for another living creature.

so yeah, like was said, wait a few months and do some research and then decide.

There are probably more practical similarly cute mammals available, don't specifically get (a) sugar glider(s) on a whim.

I've always like these guys, uromastyx.

About as close to a dinosaur pet you can get (rawr). Although no reptiles are easy to take care of (except maybe some tortoises)

And yet people still have kids...

Instead of calling them sugar gliders, start calling them what they are, flying piss rats. Now do you want to keep them in your house?

While I'm not supporting the purchase of a Sugar Glider, they aren't quite as hard to handle as she is making them out to be. My friend owned one and it would crawl in his hoodie pocket and sleep while he worked on his laptop. When I would go over to the house, he would hold one of his arms straight out and the rodent would run down his arm and jump probably 10 feet through the air and land on the next person. It was cool enough, but I wouldn't own one myself. Get a dog, they are way better.

In the end, you really should realize you are buying a living creature. You have to be willing to be responsible for it for like 12-15 years. The novelty factor is going to wear off after a year or two and then your stuck with a flying rodent that stinks up your house when you don't clean the cage.

What is the benefit over something like a cat? Are monkeys legal to own? Seems like you have a lot of options if you are willing to put in that much work for a pet.

I think I am over my initial ADD compulsion, and will just go back to my plan to get a 50 gallon aquarium and instead of tropical fish put a few bass and bluegill in it from the lake out front. I just don't have the personality type, thinking about having to take care of my Mom's African gray parrot for a week reminded me of that.

But if I win the lottery I am going to build a house with its own river otter enclosed eco-system right in the middle of the living room, water slide, underwater viewing area and everything. OOT can't put a stop to that, I will just hire an otter wrangler to take care of them.

PS Despite his obvious anti-exotic attitude, Heya's flying piss rat designation was pretty damn funny.

My roommate's gf has two of them and they're pretty cool. Mostly just stay in their cage but she has a little carrying pouch for them, and a tent set up in her apartment so she can play with them outside the cage. Nothing too exciting...I'd rather get a dog myself.

If you do decide to get them, please consider adopting. If you need help with searching for adoptions that are local for you, pm me your zip code and I will help you.

OP, get some jellyfish. From what I can tell, if you get the right setup, Jellyfish are super easy to take care of, relatively inexpensive, live 1-3 years, and are pretty cool to look at.
