Haha

Sure disparaging but also very clever which amuses me.

Speaking of fat/big boned, just a moment ago I joined a gym! About to head out for my first workout there!

I think coffee noobs, especially from North America, always say they want dark, chocolately coffee. It's probably a palate thing we're used to with the kinds of beans and roasts that are most common here. I was the same way when I attempted to make better coffee, but then learned what I really like is basically the opposite: citrusy, floral, and bright.

I started a batch of Kenyan AA today and it is absolutely amazing. It tastes like a fresh bouquet of flowers with hand-squeezed lemon. It almost seems fake that this flavor can come out of a coffee bean. However, this is hot through a Hario V60 so it may not work well with cold, but there's no reason you can't keep doing both and picking the best coffees for each type. If you decide you really like hot coffee, I would recommend either getting an SCAA-certified machine or hand pouring through a V60 or Chemex.

I don't like coffee at all, but this seems to be somewhat worse.

I like hot coffee too and yes I just automatically gravitate to dark, thinking light roast is like dishwater. My next lb is going to be Kenyan light roast....find it hard to believe coffee can taste floral and lemony but I'm sure you're not bull****ting. Do you drink it black or add milk/cream/almondmilk?

I am not much of a coffee drinker but when I was younger I was working as a longshoreman I unloaded countless bags of coffee. Kenyan bags are nice ,soft material, not too heavy at around 130 pounds, the coffee smells nice when raw and a has a nice colour.
Avoid coffee from Vietnam and India. I personally would also avoid Jamaica blue mountain its decent but very overpriced because it is shipped in barrels instead of bags.
Columbian coffee is decent but if you want to show some compassion for longshoreman around the world avoid it. Those mother****ers use the roughest tear your skin apart bags in existence and put 150 pounds of coffee in them.
Doesn't sound like much of difference between 130 and 150 but it is. I hated those bags so much.
Seriously **** those bags!

So your under title should really be Longshoreman Survivor!

Ty for sharing. Such an interesting post.

Re: bags, when I was in school one of my ****ty jobs was moving 50lb bags of flour. I'm 5'1". My trick was to grab it in the middle, like where it's waist would be if it were a dude. Weight was balanced that way but after a few it still sucked.

Dude you're my undertitle twin. Ours were born on the same day.

Black. If you're paying $15+ for a pound of coffee, it should be good enough to not need cream.

El D,

They must be new! Only 8 grams of sugar, this is a big win.

I'm picking them up this week.

Why avoid coffee from Vietnam? I love it, personally.

Well first of all its robusta which is a lower quality than Arabica in general. Its also often loaded with too high of a water content which leads to it getting moldy during shipping. I can't remember opening a single container that didn't smell sour and unpleasant. It's usually used for instant coffe , as a filler in cheap coffee along with some decent arabica beans to mask the flavor or for caffeine extraction. The extract is used in soda production caffeine pills etc.

Vietnam produces huge amounts of coffee and they don't care too much about the quality. It's a cheap mass product.
That being said if you enjoy it go for it.

Makes sense. Vietnam is or was the second largest coffees exporter after Columbia so I'm sure a lot of it is mass produced crap. That said, they are pretty serious about it at the high end also. In some part of the country almost every 3rd or 4th house is a little coffee shop business. It was the best I've experienced. Any time one of my family members goes there or comes from there to visit I usually get a few bags brought back for me.

My daily coffee is brewed in a Vietnamese style phin. It takes a few minutes but I get a super strong cup. Put your milk in a glass of ice to cool while it is brewing, pour over when it's done, and you get a really good iced coffee without any hassle.

Good morning! I missed my bus (again) so went to that Dunkin I'd been avoiding. I downloaded the Dunkin App which is great. I forget who suggested it but ty! The app is awesome cuz minimal contact and my coffee is ready and waiting when I get there. ❤️
So I get my coffee, and sit down to wait for next bus. Seating area is empty except me and you guessed it, Mildred, my favorite manager. She came over to restock already full straws I think, but moreso to chat, while there was a line out the ****ing door. Grrr Then I thought, hey why not snap a pic for 2P2! Mildred is in blue and see the collage behind her? Those are photos of her customers and yes I'm up there. She took my pic twice, first time w out asking. I was shocked and I guess it didn't come out to good because then she asked if she could take another. The other two women are very nice but have been working there for months and still do not speak Dunkin English well, i.e. "Cream" I asked one for a cream on the side, pointing to my coffee and I got cream cheese. Not kidding.

It's actually Brazil, then Vietnam, Columbia and Indonesia with Brazil producing as much as the next 3 countries combined.

I had a lot of Vietnamese style coffee when I was living in (the former) East Berlin, which has a large number of immigrants from Vietnam. Prolly because that was a socialist brother country back when East Germany still existed. That said, I don't think you can really judge the quality of a coffee if it is poored over a glas of milk with ice cubes. That's like rating Whiskeys after mixing them with Coke.

I don't claim to have a sophisticated palate, or always drink it the way it was described either, but while I get your analogy you can't really mean to tell me that once you add milk to coffee it all tastes the same and the type you use is irrelevant?
