Re: has anyone seen the movie "the Prestige"
WTF at the fake machine theories. So much fail. Looking into things far too much.
One thing really annoys me about the Angier killing his Copy every night. Why kill your copy at all?? Why not use the machine once, have a copy of yourself and go about doing the trick the same way that he did with Root,or the way Boden does it (although Angier doesn't know that).
Would it really be so bad having a duplicate of yourself? Especially considering you have a big private Estate to stay hidden in.
Imagine the possibilities. Don't feel like going to work, take turns with your double. Don't really want to see that crappy chick flick at the Cinema with your GF, send your double and stay at home owning COD all night.Boring family function to attend, no problem, take turns with el duplicato. Broke? No problem just stick a pile of cash(or gold, jewels etc) in the machine, rinse and repeat, not broke anymore matey.

the copy isn't a slave that won't turn against you....Imagine if the copy kills the original (esp. since the copy knows about the machine and will want to be rich himself, etc.)

Interesting. It doesn't have to be slavery though, It can be a shared partnership like the Boden twins.
As far as I'm aware Lord Coldlow is a wealthy Lord with a huge country estate. Certainly enough to share with a clone. In a sense they will both be rich. Even if there were 10 copies or more there would be plenty of wealth.
Using the machine once and having a copy just seems literally a "hundred" times easier than drowning yourself every night.

Re: has anyone seen the movie "the Prestige"
Watched this for the first time last night, and was pleasantly surprised to see this thread on the OOT front page. Didn't even realize it was a Christopher Nolan movie until the end credits (lol me). Even so, the journal-reading within a journal-reading made me chuckle and instantly reminded me of Inception's dream within a dream premise. Could one of these plot devices have served as inspiration for the other?

Re: has anyone seen the movie "the Prestige"
Watched this movie earlier today, and went in trying to view it from the angle of the machine not working. Unsurprisingly, it made no ****ing sense, and the movie just didn't 'work' under this assumption.

Re: has anyone seen the movie "the Prestige"
I wouldn't be able to clone myself. Going into the cloning process, I would know there's a fairly strong possibility that I would need to murder the clone at some point. The clone would also realize that, and probably reason that optimal strategy would be to kill me immediately, but hey I'd know that going in...
So I wouldn't be able to clone myself.

Re: has anyone seen the movie "the Prestige"
Finally got the wife to watch it a few weeks ago then she watched it again last night. She was wondering:
1. When does Michael Caine realize that Borden has a twin? I know he says Borden uses a double in the beginning but he can't know for sure ldo
2. If brother1 is in love with Sarah and brother2 is in love with Olivia, why did they each spend 50% of the time with each woman instead of each brother going home with the woman they each love. For example, brother1 is always home with Sarah so that there's never a day where he doesn't love her.
I was also wondering, does the viewer ever really know if the machine drops the copy through the floor, the original through the floor, or if it's 50-50? If I was an exact duplicate of myself, I wouldn't know I was, right? I would think I'm the original.

Re: has anyone seen the movie "the Prestige"
Havent seen it awhile so I cant comment on #1
For #2, the whole Prestige is the fact that you live your act. You can't take any chances, so thats why they are with each others loves.
Not sure what your 3rd point is referring to, but Christian Bale's character takes turns so each copy gets to see the crowd reaction.
