Re: Greek Yogurt

Forgot who asked, n' too lazy to look for the post - but remember someone asking if greek yogurt would taste like icecream if frozen.

Well I tested it out. Here's my results:

Placed a mini cherry/pgranate greek yogurt container in the freezer for 1 hour, after 1 hour it was of hard consistency but still spoonable, altho you had to kinda scrape and chew instead of scoop and lick (as in icecream).

As for taste, it was good altho...not as good as icecream.

Nice!! Glad you liked it.......yeah I think that's one of Chobani's strongpoints, the texture is BOMB! The Pineapple I posted is my favorite, I usually just buy all Pineapples lol. Another good flavor is the Strawberry Banana, wicked tasty. Thanks for the heads up on the nutrition facts will consider other yogurt as well!

Going back to the States next week...so I'll be sure to pick up your favorite (pineapple flavored) for myself! Must be awesome taste since I love pineapple and tbh never really had it a a flavored yogurt before. Wish they had little mini Chobani yogurt, same as the Yoplait, so we can taste all flavors and can snack on a mini one and not feel guilty about the calories. giggles

Also, while in the States - I purchased a box of Matzo crackers, wow low cals low everything and they taste awesome! I had never tried them before - (shows I'm not Jewish) (not that there's anything wrong with being Jewish...just saying I'm not)

I eat them by using the Chobani vanilla yogurt as a spread, in place of cream cheese. Actually quite good n' fills me up more, so I can eat it as a breakfast meal replacement instead of a simple snack. Save the mini yoplaits for snackin' anywhere, anytime.

Re: Greek Yogurt

Everyone, I just tried Noosa's honey yogurt. It's insanely good, seriously, do yourself a favor and pick some up if it's available in your area!

Re: Greek Yogurt

It seems like my grocery store has pretty much every variety of Chobani except 2% plain. Most of my experience with it had been 0% plain with some added berries, but this morning I tried one of the 2% strawberry banana ones and man it was night and day. Now I'm a little vexed about the no 2% plain thing. EDIT: Mostly what I think I'd like is 2% in one of the larger sizes. Obviously I can move on and try other brands but my wife is a big Chobani fan, which is what got me into it in the first place.

Re: Greek Yogurt

Al,

Whole Foods all of a sudden carries like 30 different brands of Greek yogurt.

My standard for a while has been the Fage Total w/ honey, but I'm going to try a bunch of the others now.

First up to try was Wallaby Greek yogurt. I love their Australian style yogurt (esp raspberry and banana-vanilla). Well, their greek yogurt was ****ing horrible.

Diablo - curious to see what you think of the Noosa honey yogurt, as you can tell from the above post, I'm a fan!

Re: Greek Yogurt

Yogurt fans,

****ING WHOLE FOODS. Here's what they had:

Stoneyfield Oikos 0%
Voskos 0%
Voskos Full Fat
Greek Gods 0% OUT OF HONEY FLAVOR DAMMIT
Chobani 0% 6 flavors but no honey or pineapple DAMMIT
Wallaby Low Fat CRAP
Better Whey of Life Low Fat MUST BE AWESOME, ALL SOLD OUT
Fage 0%/2%/Total like every possible variety

So total fail here, none of the good Chobani, none of the Noosa, UGH. I got a few anyway to check them out:

Had the Voskos 0%. It was much thinner texture than the Fage Total, not as rich (to be expected), not as creamy, and had a little bit of a chalky texture to it. Did not like very much.

Current rankings:
Fage Total w/ Honey - A+
Trader Joe's Honey - A
Voskos 0% Honey - C
Wallaby Lowfat Honey - D

They also had Siggi's Icelandic skyr, which I'm gonna check out next time.

Re: Greek Yogurt

All,

Had the Chobani this morning. Pretty good! Much thicker and creamier than the Voskos. Still not nearly as delicious as the Fage, but not really a fair comparison. I guess I should try some Fage 0% and Fage 2% at some point too.

Current rankings:
Fage Total w/ Honey - A+
Trader Joe's Honey - A
Chobani 0% Vanilla - B
Voskos 0% Honey - C
Wallaby Lowfat Honey - D

Re: Greek Yogurt

A breakfast place I go to regularly for business breakfasts in NYC (Brasserie) has some phenomenal Greek yogurt. It must be sourced from someplace local making it fresh because the flavor and especially texture are so much better than the Fage I typically eat in the morning.

Been trying to find a place in NYC that would have "fresh" greek yogurt and no luck so far.

Quite pleased to see my Fage preference validated by an expert greek yogurt taster! I actually think 2% is almost as good, but never tried 0%.

Weird that Whole Foods didn't have Noosa, definitely have it at most Whole Foods in LA. I actually picked up Noosa at Vons in LA, so I'm guessing Safeway has it in SF.

Re: Greek Yogurt

Tried Chobani pineapple on the recommendation of this thread. Normally I don't eat a lot of greek yogurt plain (the texture gives me issues sometimes), but this was pretty tasty, and the fruit chunks made the texture a non-issue.

I'll probably still use yogurt primarily to make smoothies, but as a snack you could do a hell of a lot worse than the Chobani pineapple.
