Everyone claiming 'stain' is just trolling, right ?

I opened this thread up to LOL at the people who thought it was spelled "stain" just because they were pronouncing "stein" like "stayne". WTF???? Distressing what % of my net worth I would have bet on "Berenstein"

I'm with ChaseNutley on this. I was born in the early sixties and we had these books around our house. At some point, I noticed that the author's name was spelled with an "a," not an "e," and that fact stuck in my head. I would have been willing to bet a significant amount of money against 5850 or anyone else as to the correct spelling of the names. I think this is in part because my best friend in sixth grade had the last name "Berenson," which was close enough to the Berenstain Bears that we teased him about it from time to time -- which probably sealed in the memory in some way.

All,

Does anyone have a single shred of evidence against the A/E parallel universe theory?

The fact that no one can find a single real copy with "e" in it, the fact the author's last names are Berenstain, multiple people remembering it correctly, etc. etc.

I think the burden of proof is on the more spectacular theory. As it is now, the "a" camp doesn't really have any argument except reality itself, which is admittedly kind of circular. If the parallel universe theory is true, then reality is not an acceptable explanation for the phenomena and lol @ you for believing ridiculous things that can't even be explained by reality.

I don't believe anyone seriously believes the parallel reality explanation, because that would mean rather than being a normal sane person and going "Huh, must have remembered that weird. The brain's a funny thing that way" people need to construct fantastical explanations to protect their seemingly infallible memories.

It seems odd that the parallel universe would include some minority of people who saw the "a" originally. My speculation on the motives of an evil demon who would go to the trouble of creating these universes is of no relevance -- either to the demon or anyone else -- that just seems strange.

Did you read these books as a child, El D? Were you actually ever a child, El D? Or are you an agent of the demon?

Those are all exactly what one would expect to be the case in the A universe.

It has already been established that at some point, some portion of A and E universe people switched universes.

So you're saying that I'm an inhabitant of the one true universe and you are not? I suppose I can accept that result.

I'm not ashamed to say that not only would have spelled it without the A, I would have spelled it "Bernstein."

what ages were you guys reading these books when you already knew that "-stein" was a more common part of a name than "-stain?" I had no idea about common last names at age 4-6.

I remembered Berenstain, but didn't even think it was odd.

Best reaction would have to be me sending the link to the 2012 Blog post thats like 2,000 words on the topic. I tell him to get some popcorn and Soda, which funny enough he does.

Half way through he has stop reading and seriously says "BLEAH I don't know whats going on here, but forget it I don't want to know!" He was pretty freaked out by it lol.
