The Perfect Sub/Sandwich Thread The Perfect Sub/Sandwich Thread

I'm in search of the perfect sandwich, and who else is better to ask than OOT? I've recently become a huge huge fan of mainly sub sandwiches, but all sandwiches are great. Please post your recipes, and pictures of your favorite sandwich. I'm young, so I've just recently discovered capicola and I'm a huge fan.

I live in Michigan so my resources are fairly limited. I'm vacationing in SC right now, so my eyes have been opened to Publix. It's pretty much like a Subway, but uses quality deli meat (Boarshead) and solid ingredients. I really wish we had these in MI.

I love me some Italian subs. My favorite right now is the typical salami, capicola, ham, lettuce, tomato, pickles, jalapenos, mustard, and sometimes some italian dressing or oil and vinegar.

I have faith in OOT!

I'm certain the thread ends up a debate about sandwiches, so this is probably the place rather than an OP.

why would a thread about ****ty subway sandwiches be appropriate?

I searched for a sandwich thread and all I could find was that one. I've realized recently that Subway is just straight awful. I mean, it's alright for a fast food place, but come on...

**** subway thread.

My favorite that Ive been making lately is french bread, salami, miller ham, and giardiniera that I buy in the big 1 gallon containers, that I add hot pepper flakes, olive oil, olives (tons of sicilian, kalamata, and green), homemade pickled peppers and I run it all through the food processor to get it a little more like a spread

That sounds good and like heartburn on bread.

Can't say perfect, but my fav. is toasted onion bun, bit of Dijon mustard, big pile of Montreal smoked meat, topped with lots of shredded old cheddar, and then heated up. Couple of good homemade pickles on the side with large glass of milk; about as close to sandwich bliss as I know.

The perfect sandwich involves in-season tomatoes and good sourdough bread.

There is no such thing as a perfect sandwich. Like women, there are many, many awesome yet different ones that are equally worth ****ing/eating.

A sandwich manufacturer moved in next door, and it's been awesome.

So far:
- Turkey and Swiss on Ciabatta with field greens and homemade pesto.
- Roast beef and Swiss on whole wheat with red peppers, banana peppers, and horseradish mayo.

Man could live off of sandwiches alone

ciabatta
sandwich pepperoni from the deli
various cheeses
toasted
add mustard

the grease from the pepperoni makes it awesomer, most times I microwave it slightly first so the bread doesn't get too hard

French stick. Cut to size, half it so its still mostly attached at the hinge.

Dijon mustard on the bread.

One side gets a slice or two of beerwurst as a sandwich meat (comes flat, thin and round), the other side gets a slice of good quality ham. Up the middle add a slice or two of extra mature cheddar on the ham and some sliced up tomato on the wurst. Then over the top/centre you add some egg mayonnaise, made with salad cream and a dash of dijon instead of actual mayonnaise.

Struggle in some way to close it so it mostly ends up being an open top sandwich and devour hungrily.

Depending on what you have in the house corned beef is a good replacement for either meat and some kind of worse cheese is always an option when that is all you have.

My only problem with Publix is that the crust on the bread tends to be a bit too hard, which results in the meat sliding out when I bite. Excellent ingredients in general, though.

What's the big deal with po'boys? They are made out to be some mystical sandwich of legend, but are really just a bit french bread with whatever boring filling you want to have in them. They were a real let down.
