Burr was latest guest on Joe Rogan's podcast.

I would put Neal Brennan behind only MacDonald, Burr, and CK after watching his 3 Mics Netflix special. Have to be living.

That's a good one. I wish I could find the bit he did on a New Years Eve special a few years ago, but it was incredible.

just watched it and while I agree the material wasn't his best, I think a big problem was the crowd was awful.

they didn't go along with him at all on the whole hitler/stalin sports bit and must make it alot harder for him to really get into the bit.

he almost seemed to be apologizing mid set n never really fully committed.

Definitely the worst of his specials. First half was pretty good and second half not so much.

The crowd was definitely terrible. I wonder if he considered scrapping that taping and recording in a different city?

That's unfortunate. He did the Hitler bit at his MSG show and it killed. I would have figured by now any room he does will simply be full of Burr fans who expect that sort of caustic humor.

I think Bill is a victim of his own success.

The thing with stand-up specials that's different from practically every other media form is that each one has to be better than (or at least as good as) the last to impress people. Bands can have an off-concert or even an off-album and they'll still be loved. When you are as good as Bill, it becomes really hard to top yourself after a while. Same thing happened with Jim Jeffries and his last special Freedumb.

I also think that the MMPC leaves him open to overexposure. Some of his material came straight from his MMPC episodes (Trump/Clinton for example). Others came from his previous specials. I mean, how many overpopulation bits is he gonna do? Not everybody can be George Carlin and churn out one special of new material every year for 30+ years.

Hopefully Bill can get something new from parenthood and bring it to his next special.

Yeah gotta hope he comes in with a take on parenthood that hasn't been done by ten billion comedians before him.

I suspect that it'll sound like everything he says on his MMPC. I should probably stop listening to that so I can enjoy his comedy a bit more.

I'm optimistic about the next special. On his last podcast, Bill said he's already begun writing a new hour special.

This is shameless, but in the last 10 days I've somehow been on shows with Jake Johannsen, Dana Gould and Hannibal Buress.
I really love stand up.

Wow nice! I think we'll let you get away with that one considering it's a legit brag.

ya that is a legit brag.

jake is so great I never understood why he didn't get more popular.
I've seen him live a bunch of times and he always kills it.

the 1st time I saw him was back in 2004 when I was a senior in college n working as an intern for KNBR n we were promoting his show at cobbs and I had no idea who he was and I was IN TEARS laughing so hard from start to finish that I thought I was going to pass out.

and over the next 12 years as I've grown older and my sensibilities have changed I've continued to see him live every few years and he never fails to kill it.

just crushes every time I've ever seen him, has the whole room in stitches.

i thought the new bill burr special was awful. had to turn it off 20 mins in. think i smiled like once. just horrible. pretty unfortunate as i just saw him live last year and thought he was amazing...i suppose it is possible that i just didn't find the politics stuff funny because i am pretty liberal and don't find any comparison between trump or clinton all that clever but i like to think i can take a joke pretty well and that was just a small part of the special. none of his little high pitched impressions did anything for me this time either

In other news saw tom segura live the other day. pretty damn good. had a real solid crowd that wasn't too big so it worked out well

Props to George Lopez. Why people think they have a right to interrupt a comedian is absurd. Good for him for sticking up for himself, and kicking her out. If you don't want to be offended, a comedy show probably isn't the place to go.

Eddy,
No one knows what the hell you are talking about. Just because you saw a random story about George Lopez and a heckler doesn't mean everyone else did.
If you really think a meaningless heckler interaction is noteworthy (and it probably isn't) then at least include a link.

Watched the new Bill Burr special and I agree with most people's sentiments in this thread. I think he didn't kill that particular crowd, and that affected the whole performance, when he was apologizing/not apologizing for the Hitler jokes (which I thought was his strongest material btw). I think choosing Nashville was a mistake. I didn't think his bit with the gorilla was strong enough to close the show. I did like his bit about fat people and McDonalds.

his daughter was born like 3 months after taping that special, so i don't think that was it.

I don't think you can emphasize enough how huge a factor the crowd is for a stand up act.

The whole concept of taping a special before the election and releasing it after when you have material tied to it reeks of "welp can't let this go to waste without recording and monetizing it". It doesn't really get better at any point, pretty astonished that my Netflix has it at over 4 stars.

Peak Bill still one of the GOATs. Just the whole operation taking a dive ever since he started making pie.
