Anyone else not find Amy Schumer particularly funny? Saw her HBO special and I'm just not sure why she seems to be the flavor of the week.

I used to think she was funny, but lately I'm thinking she has a pretty narrow range, and we're now getting more of her than we need.

Why can't we make Bill Burr the hot new comedy star, he deserves it more.

Never heard jeselnik before a few minutes ago and 3 minutes into this Netflix special I've died of laughter twice. Already can't wait to hit up his other specials afterward.

Thought the AJ special was very good although a bit disappointed because I saw ~all of the material already at the oddball fest a couple months ago. Fortunately I was pretty drunk and didn't remember a lot of the specifics . His one liners crack me up . Some local amateur has a similar style of dark one liners and I love it

I think his Eric Clapton joke was the funniest joke I've ever heard from him. The special was solid as a whole, but dragged a little towards the middle sections. The bible story fell flat for me, and while the payoff for the final joke was pretty good, the build up didn't help much.

Pretty pissed that Paul F. Tompkin's deal with CC ended up meaning that the uncut special won't be out for a couple of months. Dude has the best riffs in the business. I want them now!!!!!

His "My mother should have been on that plane that took down the twin towers....I feel" joke was amazing

thoughts on the jeselnik special:

Spoiler:
fav jokes:

1a mickey mantle
1b girlfriend's plants
2 mum 9/11
3 blonde brain surgeon

i don't think the bible punchline is incredible but i enjoyed the joke a lot. he's a riveting storyteller and the little lines throughout like 'yes i'm on chapter 4' / 'i wish it were longer!!!' kept it moving along nicely.

last 15 minutes, it was ok. a bit preachy.

I really tried to like her because some women I know said she was really funny. I watched the entire first season of her show and chuckled maybe twice. I think I gave up on her for good during one of the "interview" segments on her show with a doctor iirc. The doctor starts talking about her practice, then Amy says "oh you have a practice, when are you gonna do it for real!" I remember making that joke when I was 12 years old.

My overall take on her is that 75% of her jokes are cliche hackneyed ****, and 25% of it you really need to be female to get.

I thought Jeselnik's new special was good, not great, although I thought his final jokes and the ending segment where he got 'real' were great. I think Shakespeare is phenomenal and Caligula is better. I think his biggest weakness is once you understand his style he really has to catch you off guard to make you crack up. I thought he single-handedly (or maybe with Norm) made Last Comic Standing watchable.

I think Amy Schumer is generally hilarious. Some of her older stand ups I think put her in top 5-10 of current stand-ups, but haven't seen her most recent yet. The Schumer show was up and down. Some fantastic episodes, others meh...and tonally all episodes were similar in the second season.

One old comic not yet mentioned in this thread is Dennis Wolfberg. He passed away much to early unfortunately. If not familiar, look up some of his bits.

Just watched Schumer's special tonight and was kind of disappointed. I might have liked it more had I not heard like 6 or 7 of her bits while she was doing her press tour for Trainwreck. She's still an excellent comic but going forward it would prob be in her best interest to save her best bits for the specials instead of the Ellen appearances.

I also watched Jeselnik's special and absolutely loved it. He's so fun to watch.

Seeing Bill Burr on the 27th. Of my top 3 comics. He's the only one I haven't seen yet. Really looking forward to it.

You guys should check out the two new Comedy Central Half Hours this Saturday at midnight. Sam Morril and Joe List, two of NY's best comics.

I thought Schumer's SNL opening was terrible and in the camp that doesn't find her particularly funny.
