My entire FB feed is filled with comics ripping on her, saying how dare she say that they can't do vagina jokes, etc. COMPLETELY missing the point of what she was trying to say. I will say that her tone definitely came off bad, seeming very holier than thou. Like at one point she mentions that she's the only female comic with a World War 2 bit in her act. Oy. Twitter had some fun with that gem.

But yeah, the reaction from comics is much more insufferable because she's absolutely right (not just about female comics, but comics on the whole). Obviously the comics who are having great success are, more or less, pretty high quality even if they're not one's cup of tea, and you can tell just how much time and energy they spend honing their craft. But for every one of them, there are 100 semi-pro comics (around the level I'm at now) who seemingly have nothing to say, and 1,000 comics doing the same unfunny 5 minutes at the same open mic every night of their lives.

Ugh, I just bummed myself out.

I saw a lot of people on FB coming out of the woodwork to share tales of times she was ****ty to them. It was some solid schadenfreude to say the least.

Nice! I've done a showcase there, it is a good room and everyone was very friendly. If you see Hannah Hogan please congratulate her on her recent nuptials.

(I'm glad to see some shameless plug/brags in the thread because I'm guilty of a few)

if we're shameless plug/bragging, im self-producing a storytelling festival this summer in NYC - more focus on storytelling than comedy, but do have a few great comedians booked. just announced the lineup:

Watched Colin Quinn's The New York Story on Netflix. I love Colin and thought this was hilarious. More of a one-man show than a stand up special, most of it was riffs on the different ethnic groups that make up NYC. I'm from NYC, not sure if it plays as well to people from elsewhere, but worth checking out imo.

Saw Joe Rogan last weekend and his new stuff killed, just about everyone in the audience were die hard fans and a good crowd.

One of the young comics from I'm dying up here opened for him and although green he warmed up the crowd well

I have been doing stand up for about two years in Beijing and get to run the biggest shows that come to the city. I hosted a show with Joe Machi last month and he absolutely destroyed. Definitely see him if you get a chance. He also sat and talked comedy with us for like 2 hours afterwards. I will also get to host when Mark Normand comes to town in September and I am so excited. If you are a Normand fan, his podcast with Joe list, Tuesdays with Stories, is hilarious.

I'm opening on a few shows for Birbiglia this weekend, he is running his new hour and it is outstanding. I highly recommend checking it out once his theater tour starts in a couple weeks.

Audible.com has some Dr. Katz downloads which are currently free. They appear to be new material and are about 12 minutes each. I listened to the Sarah Silverman and Ray Romano ones, both solid. Ted Danson was surprisingly funny also.

Traveling to Montreal for JFL in less than two weeks. Our schedule is almost full.

Monday
7 - Bryan Callen
9 - Katherine Ryan
Tuesday
8:30 - Ryan Hamilton
10:30 - James Adomian
Wednesday
8:45 - Mark Forward
10:30 - Ron Funches
Thursday
7 - Mike Birbiglia
9:30 - Nasty Show (with Ari Shaffir, Jimmy Carr, Robert Kelly, Big Jay Oakerson and Godfrey)
Friday
7 - Judd Apatow
9:30 - Trevor Noah
12 - Goddamn Comedy Jam
Saturday
7:30 - John Mulaney
9:30 - Craig Ferguson

Still have 2 tickets to burn on our passes, I'll probably use them for a couple of midnight shows but I'm an old and midnight seems to be getting later every year. Ari Shaffir and Eugene Mirman both have storyteller style midnight shows... might go with those two.

Ladies and Gentlemen, John Mulaney...

Most shows were good with Mulaney coming in at #1 for me. Birbiglia was good but the most disappointing relative to my expectations. Only show that was flat out bad/boring was Apatow (which was filmed for a Netflix special so you will be able to decide for yourself).

Saw Apatow a few weeks ago and found a lot of his stuff to be more moderately entertaining/interesting than funny. Like stuff that maybe made me smile but not laugh.
