I was pretty surprised that Bill could even have an audience that's not 100% with him, so I'm wondering if he's reached that level of popularity/fame where he's not just getting the fans. He's getting people who heard he's hilarious, so he's not necessarily preaching to the choir. That Hitler bit and the gorilla bit killed at his MSG show, and he didn't change much of either between then and the special.

He's also re-treading some ground with the fat shaming and over-population, so that felt a bit stale. I think people are overstating the dip in quality, though. It was a good special, just the worst of his lot.

Peak Bill still one of the GOATs. Just the whole operation taking a dive ever since he started making pie.

meh this is a massive overreaction to one mediocre special.

he still kills it live (I've seen him 3x live in past year) his podcast is quite often LOL hilarious and at worst entertaining.

to say the dude has taken a dive is unwarranted imo.

let's see what his next special looks like before we go and proclaim him done.

and **** I'll still take his worst special over alot of comic's best material.

edit: but I do agree with bubbles that he needs to quit harping on the population issue and weight stuff.

Just saw Amy Schumer live for the first time, wife is a big fan.

What a ****ing disgrace. Laughed maybe 6 times in an hour, her opener killer her. She did her set off a piece of paper she'd go back to when she'd go drink from a bottle of wine. Was 45 mins of pussy jokes, 10 mins of jizz jokes, and 5 minutes of something remotely funny. Funny thing was I always assumed South Park exaggerated about her, but they really have it bang on. Think I'm gonna make wife go with friends next time.

Amy was funny when Anthony Jeselnik was writing her material.

Really enjoyed the 1st episode of Crashing on HBO last night. I'm not even a Pete Holmes fan, but it really feels authentic wrt what it must be like to get started as a stand up comic.

Came here to post almost exactly the same thing. I only know Holmes from listening to his podcast a bit, but I found him rather annoying, so stopped. I'm really liking him in this though.

Actually no. She left saying she was glad she went since it was a bucket lister for her, but she barely laughed. We saw Gaffigan a week before, she laughed the whole time. This time she laughed pretty much at the 6 spots I did.

It sounded like basically 6000-7000 drunk women aged 27-47 laughing, and the rest of the stadium kind of wondering what was going on. the biggest crowd reactions were from parts where Amy suggested that being fat was ok (which I suppose it is).

At points it was literally 12 minute tirades expanding on what her vagina smells like. Honestly at minute 2 it was already boring. And I went in there wanting and ready to find her funny, zero preconceptions for judgement since I'd enjoyed her specials and a lot of her show.

This makes sense b/c she was really good before she got extremely famous (maybe around 2012) when she did Just For Laughs in Montreal, and I guess they were dating at the time. But she has gone downhill since then.

Seinfeld has been dropping into Gotham Comedy Club multiple times per week for the last few weeks working out his new special. I caught some of it last Tuesday and it was great. If you wanna see him for cheap, take a chance on a Tuesday show at Gotham.

Also, Bill Burr dropped into a few clubs last night so he must be working on new things as well.

Judging by the first episode, the show is going to use a ton of comics.

The premier had Artie Lange, Jay Oakerson, Greer Barnes, Rachel Feinstein, Gina Yashere and probably more that I missed.

I liked the first episode a lot. I opened a weekend of shows for Pete a couple years ago (the stand up clip I posted in this thread is from one of them), and it is impossible to watch him playing the neophyte comic without thinking back on my own personal experiences with him and the new comic / old vet dynamic.

new special as in tv special? awesome if so. i know seinfeld is always working on a few new bits in clubs but i thought his 'big' shows (vegas, and an upcoming australia tour) were always a bit of a greatest hits show.

In our town the reviewer just sucked up to her. But I'm pumped in Montreal the reviewer had some balls. This is all bang on.

I heard it would be on Netflix, which makes sense since Comedians in Cars is moving there. But maybe that was just someone talking out of their ass if the special hasn't officially been announced yet. All I know is he's clearly working toward something big.

Like I predicted, Seinfeld was at Gotham last night, and Jim Gaffigan dropped in too. Btw, if you're in NY and get to see one of these shows, you aren't just getting a 10 minute drop in; Seinfeld is doing a full 45 most times. The night I saw him he cut it short at 25 which was still a nice treat.

Watched the Catherine Ryan netflix special last night and thought it was pretty good. For the most part she stayed away from the typical female comic hack topics.

I like Katherine Ryan. I've not see her stand-up but she's on a ton of panel shows and always seems to do a decent job. Definitely isn't just a token good looking female comedian.

We watched that last Bill Burr special last night. First time you can actually feel a crowd turn on him. First half the crowd was really uncomfortable. Surprises me, how do you not know that Burr is gonna go dark?

i actually thought crashing was pretty meh. don't get me wrong, there's next to no chance i stop watching, and i'm sure it will get better, but as far as recent apatow vehicles go i felt more optimistic after the pilots of girls and love. i really hope it doesn't go down the SeinfeldCoffee route of 'comedians are the most interesting snowflakes on earth and normal people suck'.

i think pete is doing a decent job but its waaaaay less funny than i was expecting and they are doing an awful job of utilizing the guest stars.
