Employment situation, advice needed
I've been working in what amounts to a temp position for 10 months. Hiring me has been talked about quite a bit because frankly I'm better at the job than most of their regular employees, but the company has a tendency to drag it's ass in this and other situations (I don't think they've been stringing me along in order to get my labor at temp prices, in other words).
Background on one of my direct supervisors (Jim): I've known him for a few years, he got me the job and I think he's helped me out with getting shifts over other people and that sort of thing.
So today, Jim told me the company was planning to hire me after I pass a physical and drug test, which are both scheduled for this Monday. The problem here is that I am a moderate to heavy marijuana user, and would certainly fail the drug test.
So IMO, my only two options are: a)buy some of that stuff that flushes the thc out of your system, or b)straight up tell Jim that I've smoked weed occasionally and will fail the dt.
If it was just Jim I had to worry about, I'd snap call b. But I really don't know how much sway he has in the hiring process. On the other hand, if the system-cleanser stuff doesn't work I have no idea what will happen. I'm 21 and this job would be great and a complete luckbox for me so I don't want to **** it up.

I can't see how telling them you smoke weed is ever a good idea. Especially if the company policy is to spend money making sure their employees can pass a drug test. These tests are not cheap.
From what I hear the cleansers seem to work if you take them properly. I have not tried them but had a good friend who used one for a very good entry level job in a major city and he passed the drug test.

Jim cannot help you if you are going to fail or refuse to take the drug test on the scheduled date. The only thing knowing does for him is cause headaches\trouble. Clean your **** out and don't put that on him. It would be a dick move on your part IMO.

Re: Employment situation, advice needed
I also see no benefit in telling Jim. I don't feel like he can help you nor should you put him in a position by asking him to.
i have no idea if those cleansers work. I'm inclined to think they are ineffective. My understanding is that they are just diuretics so you could accomplish the same results with ****loads of caffeine and water. Maybe borrow some stronger diuretics from an old person you know.
In your position I would be researching what kind of time you need to get the thc out of your system and possibly finding a way to stall for time -- obviously stop smoking weed. I'd also start researching the possibility of interfering with the test. I have no idea if that is possible or how or even if there are different kinds of tests that can be interfered with in different way but in your position I'd certainly be looking to find out. There used to be a really good site for stuff like this but the name eludes me -- I'm sure someone else will know what I mean and provide it.

Yeah, I'm with everyone in that I don't understand what you hope to accomplish by telling Jim. Please do explain.
Also, @fsu2010: one of the few things that bothers me more than it should on a forum is when the first response quotes the OP in its entirety. What is the point? We know what you're responding to -- it's all there right above you and there aren't any other options. You didn't even highlight a part of it or something.

I am too old to know if the modern "cleansers" work, but I can tell you 100% the old "4 gallons of water within 2 hours of the test" works! 3 up, 3 down. Last one, I even capped it off with a bottle of Mountain Dew for color! Not at all pleasant.
No don't tell Jim.

Re: Employment situation, advice needed
Something I forgot to mention: it's a union job, Jim was a member for a long time (+20 yrs). Don't know if that changes anything.
If I were to tell him, it would be so that he could either postpone the test ("we're too short on workers today, I need wild will") or maybe to put in a word with upper management/hr to tell them that a positive for weed of all things shouldn't exclude me from the opportunity by itself. Remember, they are officially hiring, and I've been doing it for almost a year. For me to fail the dt and get fired(?) would mean they'd have to start from scratch with someone else.
I realize this puts Jim in a ****ty spot. But it also feels like a betrayal if I go and fail the dt after he's helped me out so much.

Aren't drug tests often part of health insurance plans? So it is possible tha management has no choice in the matter.

Find a job with a company that doesn't have drug tests?

See this is my first "real" job, I don't know about this kind of stuff.

Yeah, that's why they're giving you a precise time when you'll take the pee test on a Monday instead of a pop quiz. So you'll pass it.

Don't tell Jim, but getting some clean pee might be a good idea, I doubt they will watch you piss so you should have the bathroom to yourself
Note - Check the drug rules at the company you are working at so you can stop smoking weed and don't have to worry about failing drug tests.

They don't watch you piss, but they will take the temperature of it. Pretty tough to keep it at the right temperature.

Don't ever tell Jim. I would definitely do A. I'd obviously start looking into it immediately (tonight) and start slamming water the next few days. If you're not all that confident in that, strap a condom of clean piss to your leg on Monday. According to Tom, that won't work, but that's worst case scenario.
