I just found out I had a kidney stone a couple days ago, and for the first four or so hours, it was easily the worst physical pain I've ever had. From wikipedia "The hallmark of stones that obstruct the ureter or renal pelvis is excruciating intermittent pain that radiates from the flank to the groin or to the genital area and inner thigh.[1] This particular type of pain, known as renal colic, is often described as one of the strongest pain sensations known."

What's the worst type of physical pain any of you have ever felt, from accidents, diseases, or something else? I always thought I could tolerate pain fairly well, but this last experience made me change my mind.

I had severe water intoxication in basic training - due to too much water, I flushed all of the electrolytes out of my system and my entire nervous system went haywire.

Anyway, while I was in the back of the truck going to the ER, I a) wondered if I was dying and b) thought I might actually have some sort of bleed in my brain, because the headache I developed was without a doubt the worst of my life. It felt like there was a vise clamped around my head and the pressure was about to cause my eyeballs to explode.

Close second would probably be the exam when I had an ovarian cyst rupture into my abdominal cavity. Part of the exam involved the doctor prodding the ruptured cyst via a probe inserted vaginally, and holy **** was that awful. I would have jumped out of the stir-ups and beaten him with something if I wasn't so sick at the time. Fortunately the immediate pain receded once he stopped poking at it and I just wanted to throw up on his shoes.

I have a pretty high pain tolerance, though, since I'm in pain every second of every day (back injury that never healed properly), so I don't tend to notice a lot of smaller everyday pains like cuts and burns.

I had blood drawn out of the veins in the top of my feet when I was a child (they first tried my arms, but my veins were scrawny and barely visible, so after an eternity stabbing both my arms and not being able to draw blood, they went to my feet).

Except the nurse was pretty bad at it. Stabby stabby stab. No blood? Stab again. Stabby stabby stab. Each time the needle went in (and out, and around) about half an inch diagonal to the skin, which is a lot when your foot is like one inch thick at that young age.

In case you didn't know, the top of your feet is MUCH more sensitive than your elbow pits. It felt like getting stabbed in the hands for half an hour.

Bladder spasms for a couple weeks after bladder surgery were pretty bad. However, the endorphin rush after the spasm was a pretty decent high...

Kidney stones are brutal. My father got one years ago when doctors still made house calls. Dr. showed up at 10 pm (amazing thought these days), gave him a shot of morphine and left another shot w/ us in case he needed more later which is another thing that will never happen these days.

My worst pain was smashing directly onto my tail-bone in a skiing fall. I remember wondering 'do they put your ass in a cast?' bec I was sure I'd broken every bone in it.

i went to close my car door, (an 89 rs camaro heavy solid door) and when i slid my hand across as i walked away to close it my finger went passed and then the door caught the tip of my finger and brought it in with it. It literally pushed my finger out of the door cause it was fully closed some how. Had to get xrays, it was the most throbbing horrible pain ive ever had so far, i was punching the floor screaming. So bad that I took a needle put it to flame and melted thru the top of my nail into my finger to relieve the blood pressure. Ive been off jumps on my bike and landed on my knee from 5 foot up onto pavement and locked it up for a month or 2 but it was even worse then that.

Yeah, they gave me an IV with something in it(not sure what, wasn't paying super close attention at the time). I have a prescription for vikadin and some strong Ibuprofen now. Pain is way less intense now, and four pills a day or so seem to do the trick. Now I just drink lots of fluids and hope to pass it soon. Its apparently a small one, only about a millimeter.

Some interesting stories here. Feel sorry for the guy who caught his finger in the car door, that sounded completely agonizing.

I don't get them often, maybe three times in my life, but a severe migraine. Never had one before I was 25 or so, and had always thought, "Meh, headache." No way. Agonizing, and really nothing you can do. Ugh.

I broke my ankle playing high school football. I remember standing up on the field, looking down, and my knee was pointing straight ahead, but my foot was pointing off to the side. Confused, I tried to take a step forward, and just collapsed. After being carried to the sidelines, I got placed on an aluminum bench, and the trainer came over. Clearly our athletic trainer was not very good, because after asking where I had the most pain ("My ankle!"), she grasped my foot and twisted it. I screamed in pain. The trainer panicked a bit, and said, "OK, OK, you've got pain there. Tell me, does this hurt?" She grasped my foot again and twisted it again, going the opposite way this time. After another scream, I shouted at her that my foot was broken and to leave me the **** alone. She then gave me a foil packet containing two tiny aspirin and told me an ambulance was coming.

I had surgery the next morning, and have two pins in my right ankle to this day.

A diverticulitis crisis, lower abdominal pain. It was brutal acute for one day and then a low level sore for about 30 days.
Second would have to be apendicitis. Now that I think about it, perhaps it was a very similar level of pain.

I wouldn´t recommend neither to anyone but I think much worse painful things can happen to you.

70mph cricket ball on my big toe. Very similar to stubbing your toe: the first (what feels like) ~2 seconds is pain free, and then BANG there it is. Instant compression fracture and ended up with an ingrown toenail that had to be removed by a doctor a few months later.

Most definitely the time I had spiral marrow samples taken.
The doctor would **** up a few times and I had no pain killers for the operation. The drug would only make me ****ing sick in the head. Hurt like a mother****er.

Close second would be when I was in the army and would jump for cover during air raid drill.
I land on a ****ing sharp stone with my knee, not sure if I had combat gear or not. I wanted to cry and could hardly walk. 4 years later I had to get a surgery on the knee..

Had my foot damn near crushed by a Delta 88.

Lay the inside of your foot(inner ankle) flat on the ground then imagine a 4000lb car running over it from heel to toe. Yea, it was fun. I was on crutches for 2 weeks.

testaaja's knee story reminded me of another 1 that hurt really bad.

I was working on a drainage ditch that was filled with rip/rap rock and covered by vines and weeds. We were measuring the ground elevations and I was trying to hold this 25ft pole and walk around on the rocks when my foot got tangled in the vines and I lost my balance. My knee landed on the top point of a rock and sent pain shooting through my leg. Within 30 secs every part of my leg below the knee was covered in blood and I couldn't put any weight on that leg. Ended up going to the ER for x-rays and found out I cracked my knee cap almost in half. I have a scar on that knee that looks like a bullet wound.

crashed my mountain bike and dislocated my elbow and had to ride about 2km back (luckily the trail was pretty easy at this point and pretty flat). The whole thing sucked but when the doc put it back in place it was the worst. I was about 16 at the time.

ive broken a few other bones and torn 3 muscles, but nothing comes close to that elbow. Luckily enough after a few weeks it was 100% and I have never had any major pain in that area since.

I dated a prude when I was in High School. Her thought of getting freaky was giving me an over the pants hj (wearing denim pants). She would let me finger blast her all day, but all I get is some crappy indian burn on my johnson and blue balls and she thinks shes some whore now and has to repent.
