Re: Do we still do movie threads here? Hunger Games - Trailer + Casting
I am really confused by the Katniss hate (in theory--I'm not sure anyone said it). She seems just fine to me. The first person worked really well for THIS novel compared to the alternative I think. It also aided in making it a quicker read somehow I think.

Re: Do we still do movie threads here? Hunger Games - Trailer + Casting
Kind of a dumb article on i09 speculating about 10 things they "probably won't be able to pull off" in the HG movie. Which for some reason, only contains 9 items.
Warning, article contains spoilers!
http://io9.com/5885509/10-things-fro...-cant-pull-off
I semi-agree with #3 and I think they're definitely right about #5 (that they won't be able to show much of the book's gore without getting an R rating). That's kind of disappointing, because I wish they would just go for it and damn the YA audience. We'll see.
lol @ most of the others though.

Reviews are all positive so far. Looks like a good sign for the movie IMO.
Effie & Haymitch are both perfectly cast IMO

Agree on the cast. I think he looks goofy though. The hair reminds me of Hulk Hogan or something.

I've just seen it as well. I loved it! A very solid 9/10 for me (10/10 being Battle Royale). I haven't read the books, but I really really enjoyed it. The only thing that bothered me a tiny bit was a few shots where I would've preferred them to show blood for bigger impact, but no biggie :P

Re: Do we still do movie threads here? Hunger Games - Trailer + Casting
Finished the 2nd and 3rd books about a month ago. Probably would rank them 2>1>3, but I enjoyed all of them.
Going to see the movie next week. I have a feeling it's going to make a ridiculous amount of money. Absolutely going to kill in the teenage girl demographic, and unlike Twilight boys (and men!) won't mind going see it.

In the UK at least, the film was initially given an age 15 rating. There were a few bits cut to get it down to a 12A (if under 12, accompanied by an adult) so, maybe those bloodier bits were cut. Shame!
Looking forward to seeing this in the next couple of weeks - enjoyed the books.

highschool kids sent off to an island by an oppressive govt to kill each other in a televised event where the main storyline follows a female heroine .
after that everything is probably pretty different , but if i were to turn in a paper with the same premise in any college id probably get kicked out of school for plagiarism .
i dont want to get into too much of an argument here because ill prob watch this eventhough i loved the battle royale movie .

Re: Do we still do movie threads here? Hunger Games - Trailer + Casting
I remember the movie seeming to follow a male protagonist, and I remember the televised event part being only very tangential. I haven't read BR though, so maybe you're right on that one.
I saw it last night and enjoyed it. It's a pretty faithful adaptation. As usual, I have to imagine that there feels like there are gaps if you haven't read the books. The character development is pretty limited, as expected. It's hard to turn a first person narration with internal monologue into a story on the screen. They did about as nice a job as they could do, I think.

Re: Do we still do movie threads here? Hunger Games - Trailer + Casting
I thought the first book was good. Easy read, good pace, memorable moments and characters. I thought book two was average and I couldn't get into the third book.
With that said, as I was reading book one, I was thinking to myself: "How long before this is released in theatres?".
