Saw TFA and was very disappointed. It was a fun little adventure but had many tilting moments. I also hated how it was just a soft reboot of A New Hope, which basically rendered everything that happened in 4, 5, and 6 basically pointless.

LOL TFA was a lot like Avatar for me. In 3D at the movies was dope as ****, then I saw it on a television and cringed at the cheese. Hollywood is just ****ing up left and right these days. At least podcasts are fun and addictive like crack cuz normal entertainment has gone to **** with overpolished looks and **** stories.

edit: haven't been here in like a year but after being a member for over a decade I still can't believe a vice forum has censors. What ****ing pansies runs this place?

I hope JJ Abrams has nothing to do with this new one. TFA was atrocious in having no originality. Obviously visually was amazing but so was every star wars when they came out.

When JJ did one of the Star Trek reboots and basically switched the scene where Kirk saves the ship and gets radiating poisoning instead of Spock getting it you knew the guy makes moves from a fan perspective and not as an original director (at least for these reboots he does). It's like he pays homage to the original stuff but can't be original himself. Even though he is director my understanding is he participated in the screenplay as well.

TFA was entertaining because it happened to scratch that SW itch after jonesing for a few years... but Rogue One blew it out of the water.

Yeah I was initially fairly happy with TFA despite the retread stuff, but after seeing Rogue One, it sort of reminded me how much better TFA could have been and now I'm annoyed.

Still not sure how R1 could be construed as a "legit bad movie" unless you're not a SW fan at all.

Rogue 1 is to star wars what serenity was to firefly : unnecessary fan service.

Just watched TFA for the 2nd time after seeing it in the theater. It's an embarrassment to Jedi lore.

In Disney's Star War Rebels they stress the massive amount of training needed to wield a light saber but they abandon that fact altogether in TFA.

TFA = Star Wars - Light.

Damn, you guys are tough. After that s**t show of episodes 1,2&3 I had super low expectations for TFA.
Thought it was entertaining and glad to see the series get back on track. Total rip off of a new hope but a good reboot.

Say what you will about episodes 1-3, but they at least required that characters have realistic amounts of training to wield the imaginary made up weapons being used

At least TFA can lead to something. Rogue 1 is a useless one shot that didn't deserve more than a cartoon imo.

Do most people realize that Star Wars is the story of Anakin Skywalker and not Luke?

I heard a podcast that said to introduce young kids to Star Wars. Watch the films 4,5 first then back to 1, 2, 3 then finish with 6.

Could also just watch 4 and 5 and then stop :-)

Having rewatched them all recently, I will say that The Phantom Menace is not nearly as bad as i remembered. And Return of the Jedi is interesting because it's a lot of awful with some great tempered in.

Do you mean the scene where Rey gets the light saber instead of Kylo Ren?

We still don't know who Rey is.

Yeah his beef is that the first time she holds a light saber she suddenly has fighting skills that match Kylo's. Even Finn was putting up a fight for a bit. Granted Kylo was injured, but it's a valid criticism.

The direction that we're being led seem to indicate that the force will be more widespread and not just accessible to the Jedi or Sith.

Theoretically you could be strong in the force but never discovered by Jedi for training. This would even be more true in the Jediless future.

Yes but being strong in the force and being able to wield a lightsaber should be two different things. One is something you're born with, the other should be a skill acquired through work and training. Like being born with good dexterity vs being able to play the piano.

One of the genres that Lucas drew upon was Samurai movies. Ep4 borrows from Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress.

One of the frequently dealt with themes in Samurai movies is the dying out of the Samurai caste and culture in the advent of the Meiji era. I suspect we will see something similar in SW.

Rey was able to fight with that stick she carried. I think she's had some training. Solo specifically took her to Maz Kanata who obviously knew she was someone special.

We still don't know who she is, her relationship to anyone, her background, etc.

Kylo Ren stopping a laser bolt and holding it mid air for 2 minutes - something unseen before - and then he gets beaten by a girl and a storm trooper.

Yeah, yeah, yeah the previous pages explains that genetics > training when it comes down to the force but guess what, this wasn't alluded to in the previous 6 films, so gtfo.
