Making Wizard and Glass and Through the Keyhole the TV show would make the most sense.

If they could make the Hobbit 3 movies, they could go on indefinitely with the Dark Tower.

To be fair, I would gladly watch a series of undetermined length solely focused on any of the following topics:
- Gilead (take your pick of main character: Stephen, Roland, Cort)
- Mejis (the obv choice as many people have pointed out)
- Lud (following Gasher and Tick-Tock Man around)

Which i think is all 7 of the comics in one book...they made it really confusing to know where the comic series starts imo.

I have read all the Dark Tower books twice. I will def. start reading them again as it gets closer to the release date of the first movie.

I must confess I'm bad at reading. I can easily read a 1000 pages book but I need stuff to happen, I can't get hooked if it's mostly description. Is the Dark Tower really as slow as some people make it sound like ?

Gunslinger can be read in one day

For the entire series, I was hooked and found the first 5 books hard to put down and great reading. After those first 5 books, I struggled to finish the series

I don't know that the quality of each specific book would have that much bearing on the quality of each movie/season. Song of Susannah could be really interesting in film, if they did something like:

Yeah that could be cool. Introducing the writer character was def a turnoff for me at first, but it didn't ruin the story for me.

The "problem" with the 7th book is just that it was too long at 800 pages. That's easy enough to fix by doing it as a single 120 minute movie that cuts out a lot of the extra plot. Agree that the ending is great.

Man, this is gonna be tough to translate to film. You can probably combine 1-2 into one movie. Book 4 as I recall is almost completely a huge flashback, so that seems like a natural standalone.

Its just such a crazy mix of times, settings, and characters. Western elements, post apocalypse, alternate universes,modern times, etc. I don't know how the general movie going public is going to receive it.

I think it has a lot going for it as an overall series. A somewhat unique premise, characters with depth you can get attached to, a good mix of action and drama, and an always changing/interesting setting.

Agreed. I read the first book years ago and from what I remember there was a lot going on, much of it confusing, and I felt like there was a lot of symbolism I was missing. It might be something I'd appreciate more now though.

I can see this doing ok at the box office but nowhere near what a blockbuster would do. The phrase "based on a Stephen King novel" carries some weight still. The biggest movies the last few years seem to have been Marvel comic based cookie-cutter action films. Dark Tower doesn't seem to lend itself to that type of movie. Unless they could somehow nail it down with the Game of Thrones type formula and make enough of the story easy enough to follow without knowing the first fact about the books, I doubt they get past two movies before pulling the plug.

Yeh not rapped about a black guy playing a white guys part. Not racist at all. It directly affects the plot. It does appear that a lot of stuff is gonna be rewritten for the big screen.

Also i don't know if McConaughey will be able to play the man in black well. Guess we'll have to wait and see but this movie really could be a train wreck...

A coworker of mine claims Roland was a black dude in the book. I told her she is wrong but she insists on it. Its been quite a while since I read the books but I am sure he wasn't.

Lol, some people think that Detta furious at Roland partly because he's white is HALF of the book. This is absolute fanboy idiocy. I remembered none of that until it was brought up again here. You could eliminate the Detta split personality entirely (might be a good idea) and that wouldn't be HALF of the book or the series.

You are an absolutely massive moron if you think that, specifically, the anti-white aspect of Detta's character is VITAL to the DT. Learn that adaptations need to adapt.
