A good friend of mine. I was (comfortably) camping out at another friends place, but he invited me to his house to hang a while. He and his partner were very accommodating to me, they fed me sometimes, made my bed, cleaned my clothes, etc. I got a full room to myself, and I was to stay for 2-4 weeks iirc. I hung out with him for most of the time.

We get along quite well, and infrequently got in any scuffles, but I really do have a big issue with people texting and driving, so when he persistently did it I insisted he stop while i was in the car. I did not complain when he smoked marijuana and drove (not sure if this is worse, but the texting really annoys me). He made a huuuuge deal and blowup about my complaints re the texting. Fwiw, he eventually desisted. I think I said I didn't wanna be in the car if he was gonna do it.

I brought it up recently and my friend said I was being out of line. Was I?

It's actually cleared far beyond texting and driving with the smartphone becoming more commonplace.

People send emails, watch YouTube videos, google **** and everything else while driving now.

Hell I'd love to have a way to know what % of 2p2 posts were made behind the wheel, out of the last say 250k posts.

lol, what in the **** is with the first half of your OP. Im guessing they think you are out of line because you are kind of weird and so people just generally think you are out of line.

However, texting while driving is ****ing ludicrious and there isnt anything wrong with telling someone not to do that **** while you are a passenger. Its worse than drinking and driving and no one would say you were out of line if you wouldnt let some drunk drive you around.

Its ****ing scary how many people do this tho, the other day I was a passenger in a car on the freeway during rushour, we were in the carpool lane so passing tons of people and I was just watching everyone we passed to see how many were texting, at least 1 out of every 5 people didnt even have their eyes on the road cuz they were busy texting or doing **** on their phone. Im AMAZED there isnt more accidents than there already are.

I'm an excellent driver while texting, terrible at texting while driving though. Takes me forever to write something.

I tried texting while driving once. I typed one letter, realized it one hell of a ****ing bad idea, and stopped.

bro code says you're out of line. i live and die from bro code so there's that.

unless said bro is ******ed while texting and driving. then i tell it's not a good idea for him to text and drive. but i give everyone the benefit of the doubt until otherwise.

yep. this case clearly falls under the "no back seat bitching" clause of the bro code. generally seen as a "bitch" move to engage in back seat bitching. if said bro veers into traffic just grab the wheel and call him a bitch for driving like a pussy.

You're doing your friend a favor by telling him to stop. But its his choice. The studies are pretty clear that texting while driving is super dangerous.

I wouldn't ride with him if he keeps doing it. I don't ride with friends who are drunk either. It's a stupid move.

You might offer to work the phone for your friend while he drives, if the texts are the usual meaningless bs. Or just ask if you can drive.

Either way I'd rather have a pissed off friend then get in a wreck.

You're an a-hole if you text while you drive. Come to think of it, you're an a-hole if you text.

This is awesome.

Why are they making your bed and cleaning your clothes? Is there something preventing you from doing so?

Also, is your friend gay? "Partner" isn't as commonly used for heterosexual couples.

I text while driving more than I should and there's no way it's worse than drinking and driving assuming you are talking about more than a couple drinks.

Though texting in rush hour traffic where you're speeding up and stopping a lot and there's lots of lane changes is pretty freaking ******ed.

I think the big problem isn't reaction time from the time you see a problem, like when you're drunk. It's how long your eyes are off the road and how far you travel in that time.

To use round numbers let's say you're going 60 mph. You type a text, that takes 6 seconds. You're traveling a mile in a minute so in 6 seconds you'll travel about 176 yards. So that's almost the length o two football fields without even looking at the road.

Even just going 35 mph you'll cover almost a football field without seeing what's in front of you. Lots can happen in that distance, like cars stopping, entering your lane, etc.

It's very dangerous. No question about that.
