That depends. Do you ever use more than five exclamation marks in a month?

I'm going to have to go with no. No explanation marks, unless the situation is absolutely dire.

I'm really surprised Cory Morrow hasn't been mentioned yet. He's been my favorite for a while now, his older stuff being his best, imo. I saw him probably about 7-8 times when I was in school and it was always good. Randy Rogers, Jason Boland, Steve Earle, and Townes Van Zandt are great. I can't really stand the stuff they play on the radio, it's way too pop country now.

When Garth Brooks did like 9 shows in Kansas City at the Sprint Center I went to 2 of them and got to meet him before one of the shows. He's a real down to earth guy. Say what you will about him, he puts on a damn good show.

Reckless Kelly and Stoney Larue are also decent.

How does this thread go 100+ posts with no mention of the King of Country Western Troubadours, Unknown Hinson with his chart topping sideburns?

I like how he tells womerns how things are.

wear something sexy if you're gonna talk

Unknown Hinson don't think much of rawk. A damn 15 year old punk can do it. But sometimes he'll throw the audience a bone anyway.

Just in case you think Unknown Hinson is a joke, this ain't no joke. Jokes don't get their own signature guitar.

From what I've seen on youtube, I'll probably just pick up the country albums. I look forward to seeing him on his tour in Ft. Worth in a few weeks. His shows are supposed to have a set of country, a punk/country fusion set and then the doom rock set(might skip out on that one).

there are a lot of quirky/interesting country music artists mostly from Texas:

Jerry Jeff Walker
Ray Wylie Hubbard
Junior Brown
Robert Earl Keen
Waylon Jennings (his 70's stuff was the best IMO)
Townes Van Zandt
Guy Clarke
Steve Earle
Doc Watson
Merle Travis
David Allan Coe
Johnny Paycheck

Aldean is good. Those aren't the songs that I necessarily would have picked, but he's good.

Zac Brown's Colder Weather is one of the great songs of the last few years.

Nah I love Dirt Road Anthem I agree with you about Zac Brown band. So many great tunes from them.

Another great CDN band is Blue Rodeo. They fall between country and pop but you cant go wrong with their greatest Hits.

Huge fail on my part for not seeing this thread. I like country music and Wisconsin has a huge country fest every year in Oshkosh called Country USA... only good things happen there.

During the County fair runs there are tons of Country groups/singers that play. Eric Church, Dierks Bentley, Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Danny Gokey, Zach Brown Band, Kenny Chesney and Josh Thompson all played in some form in Wisconsin over the summer.

GRUNCH

Decent chance I'll get laughed out of the thread, but...

Even though I was raised in Texas, I've never liked country music, save for one or two "pop" songs. I'd like to have 10-20 country songs I like in my library, for enjoyment, girls, and to request when I go out to one/two-step.

Country songs I enjoy --

Wagon Wheel - Old Crow Medicine Show

Would you go with me - Josh Turner

When it Rains - Eli Young Band

Big Green Tractor - Jason Aldean

Taste - Josh Abbott Band

Anyone have recommendations for similar songs?

I was just listening to, and admiring, that song by Strait this morning on the way to work.

I believe my favorite of his is this slightly less-heralded one:

She has perhaps the best voice of any female country artist of my time. Not sure why she only had three or four hits.

With that said, this might be the worst video in the history of moving pictures.

Cheyenne is a most excellent choice.

I saw Mr. Strait in Vegas a few years ago. That show is up there with Springsteen for me in terms of best live show I have ever seen.

Yeah, both of the two that I didn't choose and have been posted would be in my personal George Strait top 10. And then a bunch of ****ing great songs wouldn't make the top 10, which would say a lot.

Glad I found this thread. Country music is my first love. May I present, one of the kings of all time
<-----------

Some of my favorites from Conway

It's Only Make Believe
That's My Job
Julia
You've Never Been This Far Before
Rest Your Love On Me

George Strait, King of Cool--If I were only allowed to listen to one singer for the next year, it would be this guy. His early stuff is some of the best music ever made. My top 5 from him:

Nobody In His Right Mind Would've Left Her
Foolhearted Memory
You Look So Good In Love
The Chair
I Saw God Today

Also love the Hag, Willie, Waylon, Travis, Whitley, Jackson. Of today's commercially successful folks, the ZBB and Paisley are my favorites. Paisley is an amazing guitarist and a good writer. Speaking of guitarists, I only like a very few songs of his, but Keith Urban is a hell of a guitarist and puts on a great live show (saw him with Kenny Chesney and I thought Urban was better than Chesney, which was saying something because KC puts on a high energy show and plays forever).

As far as the ZBB goes, Colder Weather is definitely a hauntingly beautiful song that reminds me a little of Please Come to Boston, and my favorite song this year so far. Highway 20 Ride is great, as is As She's Walking Away.

Does anyone ITT know of Kevin Welch (early to mid 90s)? I liked some of his stuff really well, too.

Glad I found this thread, hope to add to the discussion.
