Used to be a fan of grilling steak, however after reading this thread, had to try to sear and enjoy.

Prepped the filet by rubbing both sides lightly with (good) olive oil and a generous rub with salt and pepper.

Put a cast iron skillet on high heat and let it sit while I cooked the shrimp and asparagus, when they were about complete, I seared each side of the filet for 1 minute.

Sorry for the low quality images.

Filet, asparagus, shrimp and a nice tomato mozzarella salad went well together.

Absolutely loved the steak and do not think I will purchase another grill - smoker and a cast iron skillet is all I need.

Anyone ever been?

I'm obi getting signature prime rib over my usual ribeye. And they have some kind of signature potato skins i'm intrigued about.

never forget 2/6
Update:

The potato skins were awesome. Literal potato skins. Very little actual "insides of potato". Very crisp. So good.

As for the steak.. I obi got the signature prime rib. It was HUGE and very delicious. The fat was delicious. This pic is after I ate around half. The steak took up the entire plate.

Well worth a visit for any special occasion. Helped that win was 50% off, too.

Pic isn't that great because it's a dark setting and I didn't want to use my flash and look like a putz at the steakhouse.

as i posted earlier, i found some choice rib eyes for 5.99/lb, so i bought two.

i already had a pretty big rib eye in the fridge (solid USDA select), so i had that one and gave my girlfriend the smaller of the two choice steaks i bought. first pic gives an idea of the size difference.

this was a few days ago. one of my best breakfasts ever.

and for my own valentine's day gift (the girlfriend worked), i ate the other choice steak. it was about 1lb. also made steak fries and some caramelized onions. fries were money.

always start with the fat crisps imo.

Probably a little more done than I'd prefer, but still an A+ meal and awesome looking breakfast. Makes me want to do the same. This thread will never die, and it's great.

yeah the closeup makes the first steak look more cooked than the second, but it was actually rarer. probably because i took those pictures with daylight outside.

the dinner steak was a little over done (too much gray) because i was impatient and put it in before the pan was hot enough. like medium rare with a thin strip of medium well just beneath the crust. crust was a little lacking too.

Canon-PowerShot-ELPH-300-HS

This baby. One of the few on Consumer Reports that had Excellent on the video review with 1080p HD. The other out-of-the-box great thing it does is figure out what shot you need and take it. I just put the lens one inch away from this charger in low light and this is the picture with no flash:

Was available for $150 at Best Buy, but I got it bundled with an extra battery, 4GB card, and a nice case for $175. Extremely happy so far.

Amazon reviews also has a ton of great info on other things it does. You can set shutter speed to 15s for example.

camera does look sick tho! i guess i have a 'better' canon, but for the price + size + features that seems really quite remarkable.

i thought he meant point and click temperature gauge, that could somehow tell you what the internal temp of the steak was without piercing the meat. so i'm the idiot

i had a canon point-n-click, which was great. until i got crushed by a wave on a seashore, drenching myself and the camera.

maybe its the pic, but the first one just looks a lot closer to medium than medium rare.
