The duck and roast pork are great, but even things like Orange Beef or whatever are much better than you get at the standard takeout hole.
looks damn good, had an order all lined up from Favor and after 30+ minutes, the bastards cancelled my order and now its too late for me to drive there myself

I was just looking at some recipes for roast pork and came across this idea.

"put your pork on a wire rack in the sink and pour a jug of boiling water over the rind. Pat dry thoroughly with paper towel."

https://www.pork.com.au/roast-hints/

Has anyone tried this? I had never heard of doing this before.

El D,

Thanks for the recipe suggestion. My bf is expecting traditional roast pork tonight but I will keep that in mind for another time, it looks really yummy!

I had a good experience at E-TAO inside the Galleria. Dont let the name / location fool you, there is some legit cooking here. Cuisine tends to stray Cantonese. I enjoyed the stuffed chicken wings, a traditional labor intensive dish where the bones inside the chicken wing are removed while keeping wing attached, stuffed with cooked sticky rice mixture, then fried. I also remember their xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) being decent.

For dim sum, I had a good experience at Fung's Kitchen.

For Sichuan/Szechuan, I hear good things about Pepper Twins but havent gone yet.

^Amoeba I hate the Galleria so will likely pass on E-Tao. Funny you mentioned Fung's and Pepper Twins. I'm likely taking my father-in-law who's coming into town Friday to Fung's on Sunday. Also just yelped Pepper Twins on Sunday as I drove by a new location. Will go there next time I need Chinese takeout.

I've ordered First Chinese BBQ from Favor 3 nights in a row

1st night, Favor Cancelled

2nd night, Favor Cancelled

3rd night's a charm, I got a driver!!

Results:

Spoiler:
DENIED!!

The driver got to the place only to find out they don't take credit cards....

W.T.F.????

I opted to revisit a place I hated as a kid: BoBo China (ever been? If so, what do you think about it?)

It was better than I remembered but nothing special, just the typical fare I've grown accustomed to thinking was Chinese food (sweet & sour pork, sesame chicken, Mongolian beef, egg drop soup, egg rolls).

There are hardly any Chinese restaurants near where I live and the ones that are nearby are horrible, they are NOTHING like what Ive seen you make in this thread, a place that served those types of recipes would be packed imo.

I wonder why I've never seen the type of Chinese food you've shown off here, too time consuming to make? Fear that most Americans won't like it?

Fear that most americans wont like it and there is a certain nostalgia for Americanized Chinese food amongst the population. People for the most part, are not adventurous about food. People all over the world really, not just the US.

This has probably been said before but you need to find a restaurant that is packed with Asians. This might be more difficult in rural areas but I have always encountered awesome food with this approach in cities. Another thing I do is scope out what people are eating and say I'll have what that persons eating. Hopefully this isn't considered rude, I've always wondered if possibly it is

Everyone does it.
Pain in the ass for the kitchen. Sell one of certain items early in service, and all of a sudden you are drowning in orders that item. Well beyond what you prepped for.

I'm trying to get in the habit of cooking 4 meals a week at home for myself and fiancé. Hoping to learn some things. This was night 1. Chili Powder Salmon with a zucchini corn salad.

Riddle,

I'm sure the dish was great, but I'm more impressed by your food presentation and photography!

Good job Riddle. I always feel really happy when people say they are making more effort to cook at home.
