Usually when people post a hot chick as an apology the chick is disappointing. This is not a case of that.

Oh yeah, I'd get a grill.

Grills themselves are not forbidden; just gas ones.

I think deep frying a turkey is very different (and more dangerous) than grilling a steak. Well, I know for a fact it is, I was just trying to be non-confrontational. But **** that.

My roommate is my gf. If the porch is going to get lit on fire, it will be me doing it.

schwza,

Does it say anything specific in the condo documents?

And condo associations have never been known for their bendyness, be it large or small.

What happened in reality was that the lid just got pushed right off the top and the grease just flowed over onto our cement porch where it started a decent sized fire. Luckily, we managed to put it out but we had still several burn marks on the concrete and probably came really close to burning the whole complex down.

Thank god the whole bucket didn't catch on fire like the picture.

I skimmed through it and didn't see anything, but I'll read it more carefully before we have our first condo meeting tomorrow. The woman on the ground floor just bought a grill for her patio and the second floor people have a grill on their patio (on the ground level in the back, so it's ok legally).

My gf thinks there was a rule about not having an open flame of any kind within 10 feet of the building, but the ground floor person is definitely violating that the the 2nd floor people might be.

schwza, most cities have a rule about no open flames withing x feet of the building. . The chance of being caught just depends on your complex/city. I never asked my neighbors but my complex was sort of ghetto.

Pretty much every city I've lived in has a law about grills on balconies less than 10 feet from the building being illegal. Almost all balconies are too small to get 10 feet away. Almost all grills on balconies are actually illegal.

Nobody seems to care except super-nitty apartment managers.

BTW OP try to make sure you aren't getting smoke or ash directly into somebody else's unit. That's not cool.

This being the case, I wouldn't even mention it and just put a grill out there.

The key is not mentioning it, though. Play dumb.

(Anybody remember my thread from about six years ago, when I mentioned that my family and I were left homeless when the apartment building I lived in burned to the ground? That fire started on a balcony, on a different floor, on the opposite corner of the building.)

In WA you can have a grill on the balcony if you have a sprinkler.

you've said if you buy it and the neighbours downstairs report you you'll be pissed off for wasting cash.

and numerous people have said 'just ask, if they say no they would have reported you anyway'.

so, just ask them? this discussion is dumb.

Just use it discretely and if anyone asks you about it, tell them your uncle left it for you when he died last year and the two of you were extremely close. Tell them you only use it for storage.

I am always pretty careful when using my grill. I think a lot of places don't allow them in any form, but whatever, everyone has one practically. But people should be more cautious when using one. I use charcoal and always make sure to keep an eye on it for the first few minutes when the flame is going. Honestly though, you shouldn't need a ton of lighter fluid unless you have no ****ing clue how to set up the briquettes.

what sweet timing for this thread

bonus question: lets say you rent out a penthouse for couple months at a nice hotel/condo on the 50th+ floor that has an awesome balcony. your lease obviously explicitly forbids any grills. you are unsure of any state laws in nevada

what are the thoughts on saying fk it and smuggling a grill and propane up to your place to cook some dinner for a little cookout/dinner party? how terrible of an idea is this? what is the worst that could happen? how worth it is delicious perfectly cooked meat?

Are electric grills any good? They might be allowed. Weber has an electric version of the Q.
