I was thinking briefly about this the other day. What is with advertising's obsession with hipsters? I get the feeling hipsters exist way more in advertising than they do in real life. I see and interact with plenty of 20 and 30 somethings and none of them are really hipsters or even close. It seems like hipsters are very tiny subculture that fit an extremely narrow demographic profile but advertisers have this boner for them.
And on top of that, it's not even like hipsters are considered a popular subculture. Pretty much everyone who isn't a hipster mocks or despises them. The Wikipedia article on hipsters is pretty interesting and talks about how even the very term hipster is used almost always as a pejorative.
I hate hipsters way more than is healthy so I'm probably over thinking it.
