Mason would be proud that over the weekend there was some vigorous debate with a little bit of fun about the following situation:

I was oot and aboot and received the following text message:

"We have table service at Voodoo Lounge beginning at 10PM thanks to [name removed]. Cost should be $100 or so and cover a couple of bottles. Let me know if u r [sic] in as we need to give them a head count."

So I go, but since I'm not drinking I just hang out and ultimately just throw the host a $20 bill. I mean, I'm not consuming anything other than space, right? Didn't seem like a big deal to me. It turns out though that it ruffled some feathers and I was considered cheap.

As an unrelated aside, I banged a chick later that night.

Please share your feedback on how I handled this. Grassy Ass.

Isn't that what you're paying for with bottle service?

How much did they anticipate you were going to give that $20 was "cheap"?

Come on honestly though the excuse about alcohol isnt so good since your getting a table which you did fully participate it and reap its rewards. I guess that is why you threw a $20. Well also you skipped the line and did you have to pay cover? At first glance $20 seems cheap.

Its better to give nothing than to give the $20 imo...$20 is like an insult to a certain extent...I guess it depends on how you know these people though.

Personally - I woulda just anted up the $100 if I knew that was the deal going in...or at least talked to the host/friend before hand just to make your situation was clear. (honestly though - bottle service is not neccessarily for "drinkers" as much as it is for the "special space your taking up")

Its a bit*h doing all that recovery work afterwards...awkward explanations and everything - I hate it.

You really don't see the problem with this?

Hint: $200/Bottle bottle service gets you much more than the $20 worth of alchohol

heh, I think you should have paid $50. The table is the whole reason for bottle service, right? Sounds super lame anyways.

"Hay guise, lets pay $100 each so we can sit at a table and drink overpriced alcohol"

All,

Thanks for the feedback. I was on the fence about the whole thing. Being the teetotaler that I am I figured I could just hang out and not mack on bitches and it would be all good in the hood. OTOH two of the hosts had to pay $400+ because of shortages from people, so I was curious about what people thought.

wow totally disagree, you accepted the invitation which included you accepting the $100 price. If you don't wanna pay that say something before going.

Well since you knew it would be $100 a head, the host obviously planned for your $100 in their budget, so they might have had to cover the extra $80 they expected from you. I have to say that it was definitely your bad this time, and pretty rude, albeit unintentional.

bluey,

Bottle service is where you pay a 7000% markup to pour your own drinks.

I say you throw em an extra $50 after the fact, a pic of the used Trojan wrapper in the garbage can, and say "I got my drink on at home! See you next time!"

Memo to your friend...remember to ask for each person's share when they get in!

You definitely should have paid the full $100 here. It doesn't matter if you drink or not. The price was $100. It's not like you're splitting a dinner bill and you didn't have any wine. You went to an event. Not to mention that you're paying for the table, bouncer and the bouncer to bring girls over to you.

I don't think you should have to pay $100 here.

You should be able to subtract the $10 that your alcohol actually cost and pay $90.

Seriously though, as has been mentioned above, the alcohol's really a small part of what you pay for when you get bottle service.

People that don't drink at clubs are lame, hopefully they never invite you out with them again. And since you did use the side effects of bottle service (room, girls) you are obligated to pay $100 since that is 90% of cost of it.

Totally douche move. You agreed to the price in the text message by showing up. The alcohol was there and you were entitled to your fair share; whether you drink your share is up to you but you def. should have dropped the hundo. As others have said the $100 is not just for alcohol, its for the space and chicks too.

FWIW, I go out of my way to avoid inviting known cheap skates to any functions that involve group contributions.

But it's also clearly unfair for tuq to pay full price. Clearly his play was bad here, but what's the right move? I'm having trouble composing a "Oh yeah I'm in but not drinking. Is it cool if I only throw in $20?" response that doesn't sound bad.

I think the important thing is the fact that the $100 per head was obviously worked out assuming everyone would pay.

If you don't want to pay the full whack, you should discuss this right at the start, and then everyone knows whats what. If other people are happy paying 110, and you pay 50, thats cool.

The real problem is that you basically ****ed over the hosts. They paid exactly $80 more than they should have because of you.
