I prefer the small bulbs. They look better and classier, especially if they're all one color. The large bulbs look tacky, trashy, and ridiculous.

Large bulb christmas lights are for people who wear dorky christmas sweaters with little reindeers on them, embarassing and traumatizing their children for life. Think Ned Flanders, except less religious and more drunk on Milwaukee's Best Light.

Totally agree. Would love to hear someone try to defend the use of big bulbs.

I don't get that. Small bulbs look just as good outside as in, large bulbs still look just as bad.

Did something with large bulbs do bad touching to you as a child?

I voted don't care before I realized that you meant those huge tardobulbs. My tree has some LED bulbs that are larger than the small ones but aren't all tardy like the big ones, and they look fine.

I have a set of small bulbs across my window in my room. It's kinda cool, I would like more ,like 360 around all the walls and leave it up past christmas.

This. I like the big colored bulbs outside because it reminds me of what we had in the '80s when I was a kid. This year I bought some LED colored lights that are fairly big but not as big as those ones from the '80s.

Large bulbs are 100% white trash and it's not close.

I have some large bulbs but prefer small one's, and am making the gradual switch over the course of a couple years as my large bulb strings die out anyways.

I like the larger ones much better and very much disagree with them being characterized as trashy. Traditional and stylish. The small ones always screamed "hey look at me I shopped at the dollar store!"

You want trashy? Big bulbs in shapes other than the conventional C9. Globes, balls, other random shapes. Ridiculous.

But this will all be moot shortly as LEDs take over the market completely.

Always had the big cheesy colored bulbs as a kid so I like them still.

Current tree has small bulbs for their "safety".

LED bulbs suck ass.

In a trailer park, yes. I think most people who use them would even verify their trashiness.

On further reflection I should mention that I'm referring to white lights, not multi-colored ones. Which could be a separate pole.

So are colored bulbs.
White bulbs are classier and look much nicer (racist ban)

I was driving home last night and saw an SUV with colored lights all around the ski rack on top of it. WTF?

I think white lights, in general, aren't great. Most people have no idea how to decorate and just threw a net of white lights on top of everything and it's a messy overkill.

But I agree, when you see the rare house that was decorated with white lights in a quality, understated, elegant manner it should look much better than any colored lights.

Blinking lights of ANY color are the worst, though. So obnoxious. Way worse than colored, non-blinking lights.

Yup. The big white ones are good for gentle illumination; we have some wrapped around the bannister of the staircase at our house to keep people from tumbling down them in the dark.

The little ones are better for decoration, obv.
