Your toilet might not be clogged. The vent might be clogged. Or other toilets or plumbing stuff in the building are clogged and causing trouble with your whole system. To clear the vent you go on the roof and snake down from there. Run water in other plumbing stuffs and see how fast they drain to see if the toilet is the problem or if your system is backed up somewhere else.

I would never snake a toilet you scratch it up and often can't get to the spot you need to anyway. Easier to take the toilet off the flange and look up from the other end of the toilet. Seems scary to take the toilet off like that but you will be surprised how easy it is. You need to buy a new wax gasket to put the toilet back on and maybe some caulk.

Edit: Shut of the water line before removing the toilet!

Take the toilet off and shake it, whatever is in there will probably come out.

Why are you so embarrassed that your toilet is clogged?

I FIXED IT.

I just pushed the auger as far down as it would go, and FINALLY, this time when I pulled it back up, it was covered in ****. I have never been so happy to see **** in my entire life. I flushed it after this and when it started to overflow clean water, I plunged it and turned the water off again. I used the auger one more time, going as far down as it would go, and it came up covered in slightly less **** this time. I flushed it again, plunging it again as it overflowed, and this time the water went down and made that pleasant gurgling sound to indicate that it was making headway against the clog. Plunged it one more time, flushed, and hallelujah.

I'm kinda proud of myself.

So I lifted up the valve or whatever it's called in the tank to keep it from overflowing. Does this mean I should just try again?

I still can't get the damn coil to retract.
Take the damned hose and stuff it into the toilet as far as it will go. Walk outside, turn the water on full force and then immediately turn it off.

Walk back in to see the effect.

Repeat if necessary.

Try it! It works!

edit: I see you fixed it with the auger.

Congratulations.

Next time try the hose trick.

Dumping bleach in the toilet and letting it sit a bit works too. Just make sure it is well ventilated.
