has anybody checked this show out yet? It started airing April 9th on Spike TV and they've gotten through three episodes.

From wiki: Deadliest Warrior

"Historical warriors are pit against each other in simulated battles. Each episode showcases two warriors in a hypothetical battle to the death.

Each warrior is given weapons from the particular group they are associated. Modern fighters and experts on said weapons present the strengths, and weaknesses of each arsenal, including real tests of the weapons. The data collected is then fed into a computer simulation based on an unreleased commercial game engine developed by Slitherine Strategies to determine the average winner of one thousand battles."

I've disagreed with one of the results pretty strongly (they had a Spartan beating a Ninja 600+ out of 1000 trials), but it's still an awesome show to watch. They had an actual Apache Indian who was a bit overly competitive with the Gladiator dude and it made for some hilarious television.

Definitely check this show out if you are at all interested in weaponry, military history, or Chuck Liddell repeatedly hitting a dead pig with a punching knife.

the spartans were heavily trained for combat. ninjas were assassins and spies and dealt more with stealth and subterfuge. ninjas are overrated as far as fighting goes. that's not really what they did.

if it was a straight up one on one fight and the ninja didn't get to hide in a tree and wait for the spartan to walk by and shoot him with an arrow, then i don't see a problem with their results.

I watched a couple of these, apache vs gladiator and samurai vs viking. They both made for entertaining television for myself and the wife. My wife liked the **** talking the competitors did. I liked the tests they made up, but didn't like the way everything was over exaggerated. All in all though, definitely a show worth watching to waste an hour.

Who won the Viking vs Samurai? I thought it was interesting that the Samurai sword could easily cut through two pigs but didn't have a chance against the chain mail.

Who won between the Apache and the Gladiator? I hope the Apache got his ass kicked.

Samurai won and.... I think Apache won, I don't remember for sure in Apache vs Galdiator.

Apache beat the gladiator, mostly on the strength of the ranged combat. Bow vs. sling was not very competetive.

The enactment of how the battle would go was very WWE at the end of the show. Gladiator was like Jason Voorhees, just coming, coming coming, and drags the apache to a ground and pound session, after which the apache jumps up like he's got Hulkamanaia runnin through his veins and kills the gladiator with his knife.

Was a very entertaining show.

The Apache won. I think they sealed it in the medium range combat.

It's an interesting show, the "experts" get so offended. I still think the Spartans would have the upper hand against the Ninja. None of the Ninja weapons could pierce the bronze armor, and yeah that guy could shoot a spartan in the eye with an arrow, but I'm sure it's totally different when dealing with a spartan carrying a 20 pound shield that was proven to be able to kill with a blow to the head.

I'll put my 30th level Paladin/Demigod up against all those choners. His +5 Vorpal Sword of Wounding cuts through dragon scales like butter, so imagine what it would do to that chain and bronzemail crap. And if the Apache started shooting arrows my 20th level Monk cohort can just snatch them out of the air with his bare hands. If the show doesn't crown Sir Bifftar Maximus champion then its a travesty of justice!

Pirate vs Knight was pretty disappointing. The blunderbus (sp?) versus armor was pretty impressive though.

Mafia vs Yakuza next week should be amusing though.

Yeah, how the pirate beat the knight was lolbad. How could a blunderbuss, which doesn't even shoot all the time, beat a halberd? Even when it does shoot, it broke through the armor with one pellet, it wouldn't of killed the knight.

I've seen the first half of Spartan vs ninja, so I'm not sure how they simulated the battle, but I tend to agree with the results overall. I think if they meet on the ninja's terms (stealth assassination) that it greatly favors the ninja, but if they meet on Spartan terms (Phalanx of Spartans vs every ninja you can find) it favors the Spartans.
In a one-on-one fight, I think it'd be more even, but favor the Spartans, so 600+ out of 1000 seems right to me.

They do an enactment showing who won the most sims as the winner then it says how many each won. Ninja snuck up on the Spartan in a grass field but for some reason did a "Hi-ya" while swinging the Ninjato and got blocked. The ninja expert said it best, "the ninja would just follow the spartan home and kill him in his sleep."
