I've been hoping that turns out to have been some sort of bizarre hoax, because the alternative--that everything went down as reported--is so horrible.

Is it really that surprising? There is a black market on the dark web for basically everything right now, so no reason to not believe that human trafficking (which is already very common) would not be on the list.

looks like the 'gang' is a figment of the imagination of the polish bloke. italian police have described him as suffering from mythomania and interpol etc have only one entry in their database (supposedly real gangs have thousands of entries)

they found a couple of auctions of supposedly abducted women on the dark web set up by the polish fella but the details dont match any missing person records and the photos turned out to be from porno. he was running a scam

upon release he told her to talk about the 'black death group' in interviews and gave her instructions written in crap english

my guess: polish bloke's plan was to get publicity for his fake abduction gang. he wanted to use the publicity to drive traffic to his fake auctions and scam some weirdos out of their bitcoins. she's a feckless but genuine victim with an IQ in the low 80s

It's not surprising that human trafficking is on the dark web, but I've never heard of middle class women in Western Europe being grabbed at a photoshoot and sold into slavery.

My theory is that this is all a publicity stunt for her, although the "kidnapper's" involvement is what confuses me most.

Some news website was littered with scantily clad selfies of her, which seemed a tad inappropriate given the story.

I personally know a girl who was almost pulled into a car by an organized gang on the streets of Cannes. She fought like crazy and someone came along, so they took off. There's big money in very beautiful young women.

You don't hear about them being "kidnapped to be a sex slave". People just go missing. Thousands of teenage girls go missing every year in every big city in the world. Many are runaways, but some are kidnapped.

This does seem up there with the "kidney theft/walking up in bathtub". Feels like a hoax and her post-kidnapping actions feel like a hoax.
