Never mind. Norm Duke shot the 900 in the last 2 games of a squad and the first game of the next squad.

yeah, thats crazy. norm has been killing it since i was a kid.

im going to get my old mission today. i had it re-drilled and baked. i love this ball and im hoping that he can get it back to new or close. my new dude puts it in the oven for like 2 hours then cools it over night and does the same thing until no more oil comes out. my old dude would put it in for 45 mins and give it back to you hot. lol since im just getting back into bowling i didnt know any better. an old hammer would last you 5 years. lol

I joined a work league, every Thurs night. We are in like our 8th week. My prior bowling experience was going about once a year max. I throw the straight ball (alley ball), average 144. My high is a 228 and last week had a 202. I just bought my own ball and am picking it up Tuesday. I'm getting the hang of the hook but the alley ball doesn't budge and it's killing me. I'm excited to try a real ball.

its going to be like a new game when you get a ball the fits your hand. hopefully you got a good ball. a cheap plastic ball wont hook much more than a house ball.

yeah i remember reading that norm shot 900 in a tourney at some point, didn't realize he didn't get "credit" for it... but i don't feel too bad for him

first time on the lanes in months the other night and i put up 883 for four... not the monster series some of you guys have been posting, but not bad for a fat guy half in the bag with a 12 year old ball wish i had time to join a league

ive only bowled one league at a time for the past 5 years and only have one ball because i dont have the time/money to waste (23, grad school, girls). actually the only reason i have an account on this forum is for Ms OOT...yea classy i know

averaging 220 atm. i throw 16lbs 19-24 mph with more revs than you. which explains how i get good angle on the pocket at 20+ mph. i couldnt even tell you what ball im using.

im 6'4" i lift consistently and ive been bowling since i was younger (which explains why im stronger than everyone). 4x 3's and 2x 8's. my first 3 was when i was 14 which was pretty cool.

i thought about going pro when i was in high school...i used to be teammates with rhino page back in the day. but ive moved away from the idea of pro bowling because i like it more as a hobby. plus im in grad school and care more about my education

but ill beat any of you heads up, lets battle. socal anyone?

I didn't mean me. wrongarm300 is probably the best on here pretty easily. He strikes a LOT.

High revs? 1 ball 1 league a year? Bowl me on somethin hard and I would beat the breaks off you. House shot you may have a chance.

Typical league bowler talking. Would break 150 on a pba pattern on a good day.

:rolleyes do you realize how meaningless any avg is on a house shot. The game is such a joke anymore b/c of stuff like this.

Plastic for spares means very little. I am confident on something hard you have zero chance and I suck at bowling. I have 2 sport 300's though. 1 was on Scorpion and one was back in the day when sport bowling was still hard.

so, 1 on a sport shot and 1 on an old house shot that you claim is as hard as a sport shot these days? just trying to be clear, just havent heard anyone state it like that. i know that bowling was way harder 20 years ago, thats when i started bowling.

i shot a 278 on the viper pattern with the front 9. ive only bowled on a sport shot like 4 times. i think i can average over 200 on sport shots.

Nah when sport bowling first came out they were much more strict on what was considered a sport shot. The patterns had to be 2 to 1 I believe. Now they are up to 4 to 1. (Meaning oil in the middle of the lane compared to the outside)

They used to give free gold rings to anyone who bowled a sport 300. It's one of my few bowling accomplishments I am actually proud of.

oh i see, you said back when SPORT bowling was still hard. i hadnt heard that sport shots have gotten easier. im still new! lol

im already being called a house bowler. wtf? ive only been bowling since last april and my wife doesnt like me wasting weekends bowling tournaments. i could stay home and work all weekend and make more than if i won a 6 gamer without the risk. i told my friends next time someone calls me a house bowler tell them to name the house and we can bowl for cash.

there is so little $ in bowling anymore it's not even worth it.

I remember back in the late 90's we had one of the biggest leagues in the country, 3 man league with 60 teams. We had between 60-80 brackets every single week, shoot 720+ and you were walking out with a ton.

Is it possible to get practice on sport without playing in tournaments?

i know of one place around here that has open play sport shots on sundays but thats it. i imagine there are others around the country. ive only bowled on them in tournaments.

I picked up the ball today. It's not a plastic ball. What's a step above that? Resin?

Anyway, I'm excited to try it Thursday. Also excited to not have to search for a decent lane ball.

about ten years ago i was in a classic league that would often get 30 brackets between 20 teams. that was a tough league though, i once shot 770 with a 279 in the first game and only cashed in 5 out of 10. two ****ing guys shot 300 in the first round and i had em both, then lost three more in the 2nd when i shot 240-something.

I don't know what layouts to use for no thumb bowlers but I would assume you just use a control type layout since most no thumb bowlers seem to hook the ball too much instead of not enough.
Hmm, how would this testing work though? Even if you just try a standard layout, how does using a switch grip for the thumb make a test ball fit for the correct span, finger pitch etc

The 90's were awesome for bowling. Vegas was the mecca with sweepers paying 10-20k for 1st place per event with all of the side action you wanted. High Roller paid 200k for 1st and most of the top bowlers weren't even bowling on the tour at the point. I remember Pete Weber showing up at Wichita Falls for the Red River doubles and refusing action from Randy Johnson who was the top action bowler around in the late 80's early 90's. He ended up killing himself over a girl, but that is beside the point. No those Vegas sweepers pay 2500 for 1st and the main event is 10-15k.

Our local leagues used to have so much action. A good night was worth 500-1k in brackets and side bets. Now there is nothing. I transitioned into poker through bowling. I had played poker online for about 6 months, but was out at Vegas in July for Eliminator, High Roller, and True Amateur. We were staying at the Palms and they were running the Palms summer poker classic (2006?) and I chopped two of the small events. Went to the WSOP and final tabled a nightly $500 and never picked up a bowling ball the entire trip. Finished out my leagues that year and haven't picked up a ball since. Now with poker declining I am considering getting back into it.

As far as sport shots, they vary a lot from house to house. I have one sport shot 300 and I took the crystal bowling pin instead of the gold ring. That was the first year of sport shots and high league average that year was 193, I think I was 189. I loved the sport shots, we had people averaging 165 that were averaging 225 on the house shot. It made me good. Our league ended up going to a PBA league and those shots were a lot softer. I was over 210 on that shot and there were a lot of 200 averages on the PBA shot.

I think it was 03 or 04 when I had one. First or second year of sport bowling. I had a GREAT look and didn't think it would pass. (They had to tape the lanes) As I walked in the door from league the president called me and told me it was fine. I think there were like 5 sport 300s in the country that year.

BTW bowling is the same way around here. There is one big league left and if you have ever averaged 200 you aren't allowed to join. People used to throw off in youth leagues just to join that league. Most other leagues are crap and stupid easy. If you don't have 279 don't even both looking at the jackpot sheet.

nice post razorbacker. i missed out on all of the 90's bowling. im glad though, its been fun to come back to a whole new sport. lol just kidding, but the balls are so crazy compared to the old hammer and nail though.

i just followed up my 817 with a nice 748. i went 257 256 235. i started drinking in the 2nd game and started chucking the ball. 3rd game i was lucky to get 235 i was throwing it so hard, like an idiot. i then slowed it down i finished with the last 5 or something. whatever, im running good! HAHA!
