Definitely be able to get a 45"/120Hz for under $300. Won't be a well known brand, but they'll be out there.

is there really a big difference in quality among the brands if specs are same?

I bought my 40" Sanyo TV 6 years ago during black friday for $450. Unfortunately I can tell its losing some steam

There are 65" smart HDTVs out there currently that can be had for under $1000. There's a 65" vizio at the sams club down the street from me for $948 right now.

I agree the "smart" application on my Panasonic is pretty pathetic too. Probably better off just getting a chromecast for $30 and calling it a day, plus you can carry the chromecast and your netflix subscription etc. with you, if you go to your parents or friends house.

Edit: Heh, OP even wants an Xbox to go with his new TV. Getting a smart TV on top of an Xbox is completely pointless.
I already have a chromecast, but it doesn't have all the apps I would like. If it had every streaming service known to man, sure I'd be all set.

I want an Xbox but it's definitely not at the top of the list. Might not happen at all or the wife might get it for me.

Basically the one app that would sell me on a smart TV is NHL Gamecenter. If I get an xbox, this is obviously not an issue.

Bingo. It doesn't seem worth it to specifically search out a non-smart TV when the selection out there is almost non-existent. Sure, they will eventually obsolete, but right now Smart TV = TV.

I bought a 42" 1080/120 Toshiba last year right before Christmas and paid less than $300. You shouldn't have a problem finding a 45" this year.

It's getting tougher and tougher to get a big, non-smart TV. I bought a new TV a couple months ago and really wanted to save some money by going non-smart, but it wasn't easy. I ended up with 55" smart Vizio.

I haven't used the TV's apps much, as I have a Chromecast, but the ones I have used (Netflix and Vudu) have worked very well.

Saw the PS4 link, but does anyone know of somewhere selling Xbox One's, preferably a Halo: Master Chief Collection bundle, at a discount for BF?

I did Black Friday once. Never again. I'd have a 3 way with Rosie O'Donnell and Roseanne Barr before I ever go out on BF again.

I would've probable gone Xbox if it wasn't for the remastered aspect, and the fact that they don't have The Last Of Us.

100% of the non-PC gaming I've done has been on Xbox and I'm familiar with the setup. I haven't touched a Playstation since I had the original one when they first came out.

I guess, but most people use their computers for more than just streaming to their TVs. A Chromecast is easily worth its price for not having to get up and fart around trying to connect your laptop to your TV just so you can watch Netflix on the bigger screen.

dedicated computer imo. old hardware lying around + some cheap used crap is really all you need

they even sell fancy cases that make it look like an ubiquitous media box
worth mentioning that i have no idea what chromecast is.

but this can do everything!

Also Target is offering 10% off up to $300 in gift cards. So if you shop at Target basically free $30.

Thanks for this. I always kind of wanted to go black friday shopping one time already knowing it would be terrible. This pretty much sealed it for me, never happening.

Many stores now offer the same deals online.

Saving $50 on a TV is not worth the hassle of shopping at the physical store with all the other mouth-breathers.
